This is a great DAC, however here's a huge caveat to iPhone users: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7932507?start=0&tstart=0

ribosradagastYeah, I have heard this from time to time and would love to hear others experiences. I ended up getting a Firefly RED for when I am on the road in hotels and whatnot. I REALLY wanted the Mojo originally but I have been very happy with the RED. This drop however is making me consider selling the RED if we can confirm compatibility with the Mojo...

ribosradagastI have the Mojo and have found that Apple’s CCK (both the old and newer one) are too unreliable to work with the Mojo. It frequently drops/stops working and has to be unplugged/replugged to work again. To be fair, I have had some of the same issues (although to a lesser extent) with the Dragaon Fly Red. I also have a Pioneer DAP and have used the Mojo with that as well, resulting in better, although not perfect reliability. With the Pioneer, when stationary at home the Mojo rarely drops out, but when on the go, it drops out more frequently and also receives radio interference from other devices, e.g., when on the train, etc.
That said, I have found the Mojo to sound spectacular with any good to excellent headphones, making it worthwhile for me if only to use at home. It’s utility will increase once my Poly wireless streamer arrives, negating the need for the physical/wired connection to the DAP or phone. If you will use the Mojo at home enough, this is a steal. If your main use case is on the go, then you may have connection issues, necessitating that you “double down” and buy the Poly to go with the Mojo. For comparison purposes, I also have the Schiit Bifrost Multibit and find that the Mojo sounds at least as good as that DAC, whether listening through headphones or stereo speakers. At this price, if you need a DAC solely for home use, this is a great deal; if you want to use it on the go, do note that connection issues, unless you pony up for the Poly. And the Poly will solve the need to have the cumbersome wired connection to your phone.

DetexA great difference between the red (which I own) and the Mojo (which I want) is that the later can also be used as a desktop DAC to connect your computer to an amp with improved sound, something the Red can't do.

ribosradagastI've used this at home and on the go. I've paired it with Onkyo dp-x1, Ak100ii and Hidizs ap60 (best source for the Mojo in my humble opinion. Costs $75-$90 and also highly portable as the unit is very small and very very capable). The Onkyo dp-x1 was a good pairing to be used at home because Onkyo dp-x1 is like a thick smartphone. I've not experienced any issues and the sound quality has been very good. Details, clarity, separation are excellent. The sound stage width is average. Slightly warmer sound signature and not much extension in the highs. But no complaints on the sound quality from me

ribosradagastThis is why I sold my Mojo!
IPhone 6 plus + Mojo= Non compatibility Known RF issues. It would continually disconnect when using Onkyo's HF player, ITunes, Spotify etc.
BTW I also owned the Oppo HA-2SE, same result. Called Oppo, the tech said, YUP, we know, send it back for refund. Was told to buy high end cable with some length and not piggyback both devices, (huh-thought that was the "portable" idea?) turn wifi off, put in airplane mode to fix RF issue. Guess what??? .....that didn't work either!
To bad, great and I mean GR8 fucking DAC! The Mojo not the Oppo. The Mojo blows the Oppo away. If you don't own an IPhone you should be in good shape.

AleskbYou can use the DF Red as a DAC with an amp. Simply connect the DF Red to the amp using a 3.5mm to RCA stereo adapter cable, such as those sold by Audioquest, or any cheapo version if you prefer. Red does MQA with upgrade, so this is worthwhile to try out MQA if you have not yet done so.

ChboehmThanks for the tip, I'll try it out. I still have eyes on the Mojo though, sound quality is incomparable to the Red in my opinion it's a significant step up. But living in europe and having to go through import taxes of 21% on goods imported from the US, this drop is not interesting to me, I'll buy one directly from a shop - they go for 500 Euros all year long, so should be able to score one for a little less with a bit of patience and looking well on the web.

AleskbAgree, Mojo clearly bests the Red, but at 2-3x price...still great bang for your buck if you can afford it, though.

ChboehmYup, that's why I didn't pull the trigger 2 years ago when I needed a DAC and ended up with a Micromega Mydac instead. Which passed away last month, so this time I'm gonna wait a little, save a little and go Mojo instead of settling for B plans! ;)

Racine50 Hidizs ap60 is a great player. No background noise. In fact the background is very black. As a standalone digital audio player, the sound quality is definitely good if not excellent. Of course we can't expect this to perform like a $500 or a $1000 digital audio player. Just because it is inexpensive, it isn't cheap in the build quality nor the sound quality. In situations where I didn't have my top end digital audio players, I can live with this one without any problem. But where this really shines is in the USB audio out so that this tiny player can bee hooked to external DACs or AMPs. Pairs very well with Mojo and keeps running until the MOJO runs out of charge.

Aleskbamazon.co.uk has the mojo cheaper and it ships to main land Europe. Hell, most audio products are cheaper right now on amazon.co.uk vs amazon.de/es/fr etc...

ChboehmI have this issue with an iPhone 6s (hey, its free through work), Apple's CCK and the Mojo.......... the sounds starts sloooooowwwwinnnnnng doooooowwwwwwwwn, then I have to unplug and reconnect the CCK. I think this is an Apple issue, not a Mojo issue, because I have the same problem when using CEntrance's HDPortable and LH Labs' GeekOut V2.0+ Infinity.

jefe32Indeed, this drop isn't interesting to EU buyers. In fact, as we are subject to an import tax of 21% in Belgium, I hardly bother looking at the details of drops that have less than 50% reduction compared to MSRP. I only participate to this discussion because I want a Mojo so bad, not because I intend to buy it from here ;)

esjroThat sucks. I use my ipodtouch with my Dacportable and a microusb to lightning cable i bought off amazon.com with no issues. Maybe the latest iOS update everyone is talking about would help.

jefe32I had a nice microusb to lightning cable from Lavricables and a couple of cheepos from Aliexpress, but one of the recent iOS updates "broke" them and apparently a lot of other non-Apple certified products. :-( I guess they (Apple) just want the money from their proprietary chip. They will likely get it too now that they've removed the heaphone jack from the iPhone. Definitely sucks!
