When building a mechanical keyboard, there are a lot of things you can choose to lean into: flashy keycaps, tons of RGB, plenty of extra bells and whistles. The list goes on. On the CIDOO V98, an 1800-layout keyboard that excels in both form and function, that list is both long and carefully thought out. For starters, the presentation: the gray-beige colors of the included cherry-profile dye-subbed PBT keycap set match the beautifully retro coloring on the 6063 CNC’d aluminum chassis to deliver an understated, almost organic visual feel. When you actually start using the keyboard, though, you’ll feel a ton of modern features. There’s gasket-mounted action that’s bouncy and responsive, 3- and 5-pin hot-swapability on the PCB, NKRO anti-ghosting with complete QMK and VIA compatibility, and a 4,000-milliamp-hour battery-supported, three-mode connectivity engine. This gives you a ton of functionality under the hood in a sophisticated package that’s both exceptionally equipped and beautifully built.
