This is probably the perfect grab and go watch you can own, all you have to do is keep it facing a window and it will be always fully charged and ready to go. The GPS function is just perfect for travelling (not that anyone is going anywhere-2020) but I can't deny the functionality. The style is very cool as well, a nice field/pilot watch design vibes and excellent legibility which is essential in my book. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the slightly thicker/heavier than expected construction and the poor strap it came on but that was easily fixed with a soft silicone replacement I had.
To me, a field watch needs to be just a few things. Sturdy. Accurate. Water resistant. Most importantly, it needs to be as simple and trouble-free as possible. This is all of that, in spades, and then some.
It's a little bulky, but not huge - it's thick more than large in diameter, likely due to the radio receiver. Easy-to-read day and date features are key, while solar power with a power reserve indicator are excellent bonuses. The display isn't super-bright in the dark like a tritium or "super-luminova" display, but it is highly readable and doesn't require a great deal of light exposure to "charge" up the luminescence - I'm pretty nocturnal, my watch rarely sees the sun while I'm wearing it, yet it's always visible in the dark without any hassle. 200-meter water resistance means swimming and even basic skin diving shouldn't present any issues - the watch can take it, no sweat.
The absolute best part is the time setting feature, GPS Satellite Wave - press a button, and you can quickly synchronize your watch to the time signal of a nearby GPS satellite, meaning no reliance on tuning in an atomic clock's transmitter from just a fraction of the world, if you're even lucky enough to receive the long wave signal (large hills and urban settings are enough to impede reception), but from nearly anywhere that has line-of-sight to the sky, whether the setting is urban or rural. Press a different button, and it does that plus determines your current time zone, adjusting the time accordingly. (You can also manually pick any time zone you like using the crown.) Adjustments for daylight saving/standard time are easy, so you will never be without the correct time. And THAT is the ABSOLUTE, most important feature of a field watch, or any watch, in my humble opinion...
If I could ask for just one feature that it's lacking, it would be an AM/PM or 24-hour indicator - the watch knows whether it's AM or PM, but doesn't show it other than when it's changing the day and date at midnight.
I received wrong style of watch. I ordered Citizen Primo - CC3064-01X instead I received Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Satellite Wave - CC3067-02E. Hope Drop customer service can make it right.
bobusaNo, you check the tag the model number will be what is on your receipt. Drop published their information wrong. Send it back for the refund, you will not get the one you asked for no matter what.
The watch is awesome. In my collection of mechanical watches, this is the watch I reach for when I don't feel like setting the time, or messing with the date complication. The accuracy is great, and I've had no issues using GPS and RF to set the time and timezone. Now, I just need a comfortable band or two, because the faux leather (very plasticky) strap it came on is ugly and uncomfortable.
It looks great, but Drop sent me the wrong one. I suppose to get the Orange one instead of the Green One. Can Drop make an exchange for me? Thank you so much!
LittleratNot very comfortable with the idea of sending the watch in the mail without knowing you, no offense. I wish DROP had an option 3 where they paired people up to trade.
