Except for the lack of a warranty, this is an awesome watch. Note the big size, though. Lug-to-lug is about 49mm, a hair bigger than a moonwatch. I have the metal/silver-colored bezel variant of this (uses the same F150 movement). Comments:
  • In addition to having GPS sync, this is a higher-accuracy quartz watch, accurate to +/-5 sec/month (most quartz watches are +/-15 sec/month). This is important because this watch only GPS syncs every 6 days, and then only in bright light (but it's typically a fast, time-only sync that takes 3 seconds). Atomic watches try to sync every day. A full sync can take a few minutes.
  • Note that, being a GPS watch, this watch can automatically adjust the time, but not the daylight savings time settings/switchovers (this information is not contained in the GPS signal). You have to manually turn daylight savings on/off twice a year, unlike atomic watches.
  • In power-saving mode, the battery can last for up to seven (7) years! This comes at the expense of a larger battery, which can take a lot longer to charge up to "full".
  • The bracelet sounds/feels a bit light (on the cheap side), but it's not bad.
Here's a youtube video (not sure if it's the same watch, but it's the same movement): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5wXZ_gNAWY Edit: if you want to search youtube for more videos, search for "cc3005-85e".

PinheadIsn't it supposed to have an internal map that correlates the GPS coordinates to the daylight saving info? The first version of GPS watches manufactured by Citizen did not have it and I was under the impression that this one has it.

NomosNo, the daylight savings on/off must be manually adjusted on this watch. There's no internal map (besides, how would you update it?). A full GPS sync will adjust the time, date, and timezone, but not the daylight savings setting. You have to set that manually. Fortunately, it's not hard -- just pull out the crown one stop and hit the lower right button to toggle DST on/off. Edit: see this Citizen youtube video: https://youtu.be/Z_cCvZQld24?t=326 (from around 5:27) (Also, if you travel, it's faster to just manually change your timezone than to do a full GPS sync. You just pull out the crown one stop and then turn the crown forwards/backwards to change the timezone. It's very nice -- it's similar to a true jumping hours hand on a mechanical GMT watch.)

PinheadMy GPS G-Shock has this. I'm not sure about my Astron, I will test it this weekend. There's no way to update the map once it leaves the factory programmed. I don't travel that much to be bothered by the lack of such a feature, I'm only debating this as a way to praise better engineering. I'm very interested in this watch and this looks like a nice chance to update my collection and have GPS syncing watches from all the 3 major Japanese manufacturers.

PinheadWhat is the difference between this model and the cc3005-51e?

DJusticeNot sure, but I think that's the European model number. That might be the same watch, but with Europe-specific instructions/boxes/whatever. For that matter, we do not know the model number of Massdrop's watch. It might be a cc3005-85e, it might be a cc3005-51e, or it might be something else. It might also be that Massdrop's incoming stock will be a mix of those numbers. No warranty, remember? (Ever think about how Massdrop gets these products? Since they're without warranty, they could just be new, but overstock, products. As long as the product is as described, each unit could have come from different parts of the world. This Citizen watch could just be a pile of new watches that came from various places around the world. I think this is unlikely, but it's possible.)

PinheadGreat info, thanks! Didn't know their GPS watches didn't sync everyday. Just wondering, though, if it only syncs every 6 days, is it still able to keep the correct date when switching from months that are only 30 days vs 31 days?

AFD_0(This drop is long gone but ..) In the absence of a GPS signal, the watch is pre-programmed until the year 2100. It automatically knows about the days in a month (30, 31, or 28) and leap years until 2100.
