crowleykirkI was dangerously close to ordering one, too. My wallet gets a reprieve – at least until dealers are restocked.

kyleemjThanks for the update. Ordered one, only because they're out of stock most everywhere else currently, but seriously, we're not gaining anything here in the price department to make it worth the wait once they're back on stock on other sites (realistically, it'll probably be back in stock where I can get it cheaper by the time this one ships... But i'm lazy and forgetful lol)

KavikThank you for joining the drop @Kavik , and I hear you in regards to pricing. Because these knives are in high demand and the vendor has a strict MAP policy, we don't have a lot of flexibility when it comes to certain SKUs. Thanks again for supporting the drop!

kyleemjI understand that, but still feel it's important for the community to know there are other sites that, when in stock, regularly sell this model at the same starting price, with free US shipping, and allow the use of site-wide 10% off coupons that are available 24/7/365 There are many ways around MAP pricing, it's the same issue with why it never makes sense anymore to buy Spyderco stuff here either. You guys used to still offer us deals by allowing users to opt out of getting a pouch with the knife, but that option has completely disappeared in recent months and we're now expected to pay full retail for a month long wait. Some sites advertise a price and ask users to add it to their cart to see a special discounted sale price. Other sites offer incentive in the form of an add on item, or a rebate in the form of store credit. Minimum Advertised Pricing is just that, regulations on publicly ADVERTISED price, it doesn't restrict the final sale price. With the business model you have here, with the specific intent of having greater buying power and price negotiation through sheer volume of sales and relationships with manufacturers, it seems ridiculous anytime we here the "sorry. MAP. Hands are tied" excuse. IMO it comes across as a weakness, saying that you weren't able to negotiate anything, but asking us to still purchase it here and wait a month or more, versus going to a competitor and having it in a week or less, for the same amount or lower. I honestly believe you would have a stronger appearance by turning down these drops where you're not able to do the one thing your company is supposed to stand for; getting better deals for the masses. P. S. It feels ESPECIALLY mind bogglingly insane when we're taking about a knife from WE. A company you do business with directly on almost all of your collaboration pieces. If you have pull with ANY manufacturer for better pricing, it should be them.... Don't you think?

KavikStill, the price is the same as every other vendor, and I’ve had excellent service experience with Massdrop, better than with at least one of the major online retailers recently.

KavikShit you can't argue with that. There's no way any one Knife Dealer could be a bigger customer for We knife Co then Massdrop. On top of that like you so clearly pointed out there's many other ways around MAP pricing if that was the only option witch it's obvious not. Oh before I forget I actually came on to ask you if you caught the new Video by Love them knives ? He just did one anoucing The Massdrop/ Farrum Forge / Pro-tec Modax dropping wensday January 16th!!!! 😲😨😆 just thought I'd let you know in case you didn't catch that one. ✌

JamesMMWell sure, there's always trade offs. Some people have better CS here, some have better elsewhere. But my main point is MD's primary claim is to beating prices by buying in bulk.....which isn't what they're doing on any of these drops where they claim MAP restrictions as the reasoning. But my secondary point is that just the MAP argument alone is kind of weak when we all know there are plenty of ways to sell below MAP without breaking any rules as a retailer

KavikGood thinking about waiting tell the official drop. I've never had a button lock knife before but from what I've seen it looks like a great system. The best part about decoverying the LTK video is I've been sitting on some cash that's been burning a whole in my pocket for 2 weeks lol but I kept telling myself. "Don't do it! Because as soon as you do surer then hell Massdrop or Someone else is going to drop some awesome Colaberasion knife and your gonna be sick. Needless to say I'm glad I waited.

KavikI do know a dealer who was cut off by Spyderco for selling below MAP on eBay. He told me that Spyderco put him on a "DO NOT SELL TO" list. He said that he tried to buy some Spyderco Knives along with a bunch of other knives from his wholesaler, who he buys from all the time, and the wholesaler would not sell the Spyderco Knives to him anymore. Maybe some retailers are afraid of being put on Spyderco’s “Do not sell to” list or something. Spyderco seems to be the biggest stickler when it comes to MAP.

DougFLA123Yeah, but listing on eBay is still advertising a price, so would still fall under those guidelines... So, it sounds like that makes sense as a penalty for breaking the rules they agreed to when becoming a retailer... Unless I'm missing something from your post? I still think the whole idea of MAP regulating is absurd, once the manufacturer sells you their stock and gets their cut, there no reason they should have any say what you sell it for, high or low....but that's another whole story lol

KavikP. S. For a really interesting read, if you're into that sort of thing, try googling the differences between Minimum Advertised Pricing (MAP) , Resale Price Maintenance (RPM), and Colgate policies Lots of overlap, lots of shady gray areas, lots of questionable business ethics For example, according to a few things I've recently read: RPM, which DOES limit retailers from selling below a certain price under any circumstances, used to be considered a violation of federal antitrust laws. Apparently it no longer is considered that on a federal level, but still is in some areas at the state level. If, say, spyderco was penalizing an eBay retailer who advertised at MAP, but accepted a lower offer....wouldn't that then mean they were trying to apply RPM policies instead of MAP policies? I'm not a lawyer or anything, just like the theoretical discussions, so take the above for what it is....just boredom, not facts to quote lol

KavikI agree, once you buy from the manufacturer, you should be able to sell the item for whatever price you want to sell it at. If you’re willing to take less profit, all the better for us consumers. More knives for us! : ) I don’t know if the eBay seller advertised below MAP, if someone told on him or what. The next time I write to him, I think I’ll ask him how he got caught. Some dealers will give great discounts well below MAP, and others say, “Sorry, ...MAP!” 🤔

kyleemjHey Kylee, Thanks for offering Civivi knives, and I understand your required to respect the manufacturers MAP policy. MAP pricing doesn't stop you from offering us a better deal on the knife, you just cant advertise it below the regular price. So list it for the 42.50 and tell everyone who joins they will get a $5 credit at checkout or something... email everyone who requested it a coupon code. There are ways you can still give us a better deal on the blade, you just have to be creative. You will sell more of them and WE wont be upset because your PO's will get bigger and their wholesale price didnt change. I requested this drop expecting a better price. I am going to hold off as I know once they are back in stock elsewhere I can get a better deal. Thanks for reading my feedback. Have a great day!

KavikI asked the eBay seller about how he got caught and put on the “do not sell to” list, and he said that he listed some Spyderco Knives on eBay below MAP. It kind of surprised me that he did that.
