The thing I'm curious about is the image of the closed knife that has thumb studs. Clearly a different knife from the one in the listing, but presumably from the same company. Anyone know what knife that is?
I own two CRJB lives along with several $100-400 American made knives. I used them in my rotation of 3 or 4 less expensive knives for work purposes where they get a beating. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt they are 10 times the kife that a $40 Kershaw is. I'm actually shocked how great this knife is for <$40. And the D2 steel blades are holding up very well.
I was about to buy the knife, but the "Gray" , which looks blue online, was no longer an option. It seems that the website should have described this as out of stock as was done for the carbon fiber model.
Only thing I worry about is the D2. New knife series so not much out there, but it seems the D2 isn't a particularly good alloy. It surface rusts very quickly and scuffs easily.
I really like the design though... gah...
I agree, but there's definitely a range of D2 steels out there, how they are processed and how they are hardened.
D2 is a a decent steel if done right, but it can be a very disappointing experience if it's or it's fake. Some places say D2 but are slipping in cheaper steels. One of the tests is that D2 does rust but it's resistant. So if it flash rusts really quickly, it's not really D2. I've got a D2 knife that's stone washed, never wiped it down with oil, kept in a 50-60% humidity environment and it still hasn't shown any corrosion after months.
The one guy talking about his Palla basically flash rusting right away, makes me very suspicious of the quality of steel. Even he was surprised at how quickly it oxidized for being stone washed D2.
The other weakness of D2 is that the alloy has an incredibly wide range for acceptable components in comparison to many alloys. So you can have real D2 that just meets composition requirements, while a D2 that hits the high side, will behave very differently.
I like D2 to be honest, but it's a bit of a crap shoot, if you'll get a good D2, a bad D2, or fake D2 at this point. Though good D2 holds an edge that takes a really expensive stainless to match, but the trade off is that it's fussy to sharpen and you have to give it a bit of care.
SaskAudioGuyI bought a different one of these and it's a surprisingly decent knife. Actual carbon fiber and it's feels decent, though definitely slippery if damp.
I'm kind of mulling ordering one of these now.
Does anyone else look at this flipper tab and think to themselves "yup, that was a placeholder in the cad file, to set the necessary dimensions in place, but someone forgot to come back and finish shaping that piece"?
Doesn't look finished at all, and certainly doesn't flow with any other part of the knife
KavikIt's a little goofy looking but I actually like the way it feels in my hand, I like that it's clean and rounded so the slightly heavy deployment pressure isn't fatiguing.
