Do these feel exactly like Topre switches? Been wanting a Topre board for some time, and with the Cherry stems on this it feels like I should definitely take it... What do the 45g feel most like in terms of Cherry? I'd really like something close to MX Browns or Clears. Thanks!
When I first tried the Novatouch, it didn't feel like my HHKB Pro 2 or my RF87UB45 or RF87UB45. However, after installing internal silencing rings, lubing the stabilizers, installing Ducky PBT OEM profile keycaps, and putting foam pads under the spacebar, the typing feel of the Novatouch is somewhat like that of my RF87UB45. Topre switches are different in feel from any Cherry mx; I like Topre much better than any variety of Cherry mx.

Too much work, better get a Topre :)
bulleoI'm just picky. The Novatouch doesn't require all these modifications to be a serviceable keyboard. As a matter of fact, I do most of these things to my Realforce RF87U and HHKB Pro 2, including changing the keycaps, but the keycap part is just for aesthetic variety rather than functionality.
Currently have a Cherry brown, Cherry MX clear, Cherry Red and this Nova Touch. FWIW, the closest to me are the Cherry reds, and then maybe Browns. Honestly though, they feel different than any Cherry - you can hear it in the youtube videos, that 'thock' sound, the feel is just as different. I've yet to try a real Topre.
Hyperspheredo you know where i can buy the foam pads your talking about? i tried the NovaTouch just a second standing in a store were the seller was looking at me .."are you going to buy it ??"' ..but my first feel was it's a bit to licht..still after typing all day on my mx-clears my fingers get tiered.. i would love them to be a bit more heavy than reds..more like browns or clears..
But i would be better off buying it with keycaps from a dutch store here in Netherlands
That would cost me €171 or €179 depending on the store..
But getting it from mass drop..would mean an extra 21% tax + 10% DHL custom fees..
Making the total of the Barebones model €195 hahahaha..
TuxKeyThere are several things one can do to help silence the Novatouch. The return-stroke clack can be addressed by installing silencing rings (I am selling these through eBay) or by using ironed soft landing pads, available from Elite Keyboards. While inside the keyboard, you can also lube the stabilizers. Down-stroke contact noise can be alleviated by installing high-profile keycaps (I like to use PBT caps in OEM profile). Finally, you can put squares of self-adhesive foam under the spacebar -- I use foam strips available from a hardware store -- the same kind of strips that are used as non-slip pads on the bottom of keyboard cases.
HypersphereWe need a drop for your silencing rings!
Maybe if there's a big demand you could get additional equipment to make the process cheaper / faster?
HypersphereThanks :-) i appreciate you taking the time to share sum tips.
i was thinking of trying this out..
It's material used to silence cars and is ideal for vibration and so forth.. They have a pack which they call "Speaker Solution" for €20 i would have enough to experiment.. i guess..

What do you think? On geek hack people told me that lubing was the only solution dealing with sound.. i can agree with that statement but i also think the way a keyboard is build plays a significant part in resonance.. but that's only my current logic..
