GarthogI have an older version of this knife, but it doesn’t look like the design has changed at all. Right hand tip-up carry only, handle is a little thick but very comfortable in hand. The quillions work well opening the knife, they will rough up your pockets though. The thumbstud in my opinion is useless, it sits so close to the handle it’s almost impossible to get to. Never had an issue with the lock nor have I felt that it would fail. The fit and finish is good, can’t say anything about the S35VN Cold Steel uses but I’ve abused my other knives from them and they sharpen easy and stay sharp pretty well. Not my first choice for EDC but definitely a fun knife to have.

GarthogIf you’re truly on the fence I would take the suggestions of others here and buy the cheaper version (Amazon has it for $36 right now). Mine is AUS 8A with Zytel handles and I’ve never felt regret not “upgrading”. Hope this helps, good luck!

GarthogYes. I had one. It really has little utility use, aside from opening packages and mail, because of the tip and rather thick blade geometry. It's a stabber, not a cutter/slicer. The quillion does allow it to be opened quickly, but opening it too fast will cause the spine to bounce off the blade-stop, and the lock won't engage. In other words, lock failure. It also failed a spine-whacking test. I don't recommend it.

GarthogI have had the less expensive Ti-lite at my side for about eight years and"don't leave home without it." Not a con about it and too many pros to list. The liner lock engagement with the blade is almost full width, not a sliver like most, leaving you wondering if you would have fingers left when you need it most. CONFIDENCE FACTOR: 10+

GarthogI've had the 4" AUS-8 / Zytel handle version for about 15 years. Fastest deploying folding knife I own. Took it apart and used some crocus cloth on the blade spurs and on the area the liner lock rides against until the blade locks. Smoothed up the action considerably. AUS-8 is not a new "wonder steel" but is VERY corrosion resistant and very easy to touch up with a few passes on a DMT fine pocket stone. Once I knocked down the sharp edges on the blade spurs my pants pockets last a lot longer now! Think I paid about $35.00 so many years ago. About the same time I bought two original Recon Tantos in 1095 carbon steel with a black powdercoat finish. One I used so much / hard that the powdercoat wore off and I had it it refinished in Cerakote. I know, who pays $90+ on a $45 (original price) knife? The steel is still good, takes a great edge, and I'll get at least another 15 years of hard use out of it. More recently I bought two Magnum 12" Tantos made of the CPM steel. They are insanely sharp. So, all totaled, I have 6 Cold Steel knives - out of about 50+ I own of all makes and configurations. I have had no complaints about any of the Cold Steels, they have held up better than knives from "bigger" name manufacturers costing much more.
