Serrated only for the large(4") model, looks like Massdrop is just helping somebody getting rid of discontinued stocks. At least the price is decent, if you are into fully serrated blade or massive XL blade

I have AUS8 versions of this knife. The 6" blade version id quite threatening when open and the handle is a legit two handed grip . The texture on the handle gives you a very secure grip. The lock-up is solid. After opening and closing a thousand-plus times, the blade flips out very smoothly. Quite difficult to close one handed, but it can be done. Not very practical for EDC, but I really like it. I also have the 3" blade version, which was a nice EDC, until I moved onto some other knives. These new models with CTS-XHP steel are very tempting.

$21.50 shipping on a $70 dollar knife? Someone is having a laugh and it's not the membership.

Made the mistake of trying to find an answer at CS site. What a mess! Oh, and DUALING STEVES! I was NOT expecting that...
Anyways, they don't seem to have an "XL" version listed, search results return 6" blade HO I.
So, what's the difference between HO I and HO I XL? (Besides $8...)

SpecialEdThese knives are listed a couple ways. The Cold Steel Hold Out I (6" Blade, XL), Cold Steel Hold Out II (4" Blade, L) and the Cold Steel Hold Out III (3" blade, S). The current versions offered here use the premium Carpenter CTS-XHP blade steel. I checked it out and the XL designation simply means the Hold Out I. Cold Steel called the large version the XL initially. This may have been as they transitioned from AUS8 to CTS-XHP. Additionally, these knives are available in serrated and plain edge. Though I prefer plain edge, serrated blade are also handy and they cut fibrous material better and retain a working edge longer, which makes sense when you consider the serrated cutting edge is actually longer with the same blade length. When I plan to cut down thick vines and weeds that laugh at the weed eater and plain edge blades, I use a combo or fully serrated blade.

ScottieGI can't decide if my favorite part of this video is where the tip of the abused knife appears to shatter...or if my favorite part is a company focusing their intention on including a skinhead wearing a brown shirt with a red/black logo prominently displayed.
Maybe because CA knife laws are maybe the only sane CA laws, I can't help but be attracted to these giant folders. If I was going to add something like this, I'd have to go with the AUS8A because the price has dropped, discontinued, and a giant folder is unlikely to see much use from me. Fairly certain the ones I have now are new in box. Oh, and green is a nice option to offer, but should never be the only option. Very happy to see MD featuring more CS knives! A welcome break from frame / linerlocks, which I just don't like that much. I clicked "join" enthusiastically, saw the shipping cost and changed my mind. Sad!

YogaBearI couldn't agree more with you, here the same. Too bad, otherwise it would have been a nice addition to my collection value folders.

It is strange that a knife made in Taiwan and shipped to the US is unable to be shipped back out of the US. GearBest (China) just shipped me 4 knives in rural Kansas, and they shipped via Azerbaijan for free; all arrived quickly and in perfect shape. Maybe they can learn something about logistics from Chinese vendors.

Had a love-hate relationship with one of these for about a year before I sold it on.... then I regretted selling it!
I really liked the simple, slim aesthetics of the knife, the awesome grip and the surprisingly rugged feel: I oiled the pivot, taped the razor-sharp blade edge and spent literally hours and then days practising until I could flick it open satisfactorily. I then removed the pocket clip, because it was unusable - as mentioned by idoc72 and I tried to ignore the rattle; but ultimately I think it was the Tri-ad lock that killed it for me (again, mentioned by idoc72). When open, the blade locked rock solid, but It was pretty much a two handed operation to release the Tri-ad lock mechanism and after a few goes would seriously leave you with sore fingers!
Anyway, I came here thinking I would give it another go; but then discovered NZ shipping is $21.25, so I will pass.
Guess I am starting to sound like a broken record in my comments about erratic shipping costs on MD, but it really seems like they are insidiously increasing overseas shippng costs (like megical _banana said below) to 3 or 4 times what they used to be on more and more items. If thats the case they will become just another online retailer who takes way longer than everyone else to ship and overseas buyers will give up on them - which would be sad.

Decent knife, well known for its pocket-shredding texture/clip, ridiculously tight lock, and inherent rattle that will develop once that lock is broken-in enough to use. Given those problems (I bought a clearanced AUS8 version - the steel on these is a step up), I still liked the knife for being so thin, light, and sturdy.

idoc72I have the AUS8 version of both and had similar issues. Any knife I actually carry, I can open, make a cut, close and have it back in pocket in a couple seconds using one hand. Not so with this one or any Cold Steel folder for that matter. The Triad lock is just too hard too work smoothly.
