Though daggers are designed for piercing, many of them have frail tips that chip and break when put to the test. Not the case with the Tai Pan Read More
Have always admired the design principles of this dagger. Reinforced tip area by blade design to mitigate breakage, Kraton handle for grip when liquid can present issues of holding on, pommel designed as a weapon in and of itself (either lethal or not). This would be a very robust knife if executed properly, but is no stealth weapon - but could be hidden well enough if required. This being my opinion only as have no expertise regarding knives.
I believe this is produced in Taiwan, not the original Japanese produced items. My potential issues with this are from a previous experience with the 3V based model. Guard was either not horizontal to knife axis (x2 knives) or had a gap b/w it & the metal collar below (a design weakness, but not from a functional point of view, aesthetic). One also had different sized bevel cutting edges. Had a less than satisfying experience to resolve this from the vice president of Cold Steel (and it can be argued Lynn Thompson himself who was made aware of the issues, long story) + their designated, sycophant representative chosen to supply replacements. Ended up returning for a refund. They (representative) still owe me a small amount of money.
DrooperCurrent price for this (V10 San Mai) on Amazon is up to $180.21, with the 3V Black DLC version at $176.48; search under "Cold Steel Dagger" and they'll pop up.
I would much prefer the 3V model. The 3V had the ability to kill steel car parts without deformation and retain sufficient tip sharpness to skewer an armadillo
Not even a good shanker... Too easy to see it coming unless you are a master of misdirection... “Hey, is that your bar of soap on the floor there...?” Stab. Stab. Stab...Meh.
