Product Description
A nod to the Conklin Nozac series of piston fillers introduced in 1929, the new Word Gauge fountain pen stands out for one very cool feature: It lets you know how many words you can write before you run out of ink. Just keep an eye on the viewing window, whose numbered gradations start at 5,000 at the top of the reservoir and make their way down to 1,000 just above the grip section Read More

Is anyone familiar with the Conklin nibs and how broad the medium might be? Some medium nibs are broader than others, and some fine nibs appear to be medium while others are razor thin and scratchy. It's a completely and utterly subjective evaluation, but I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on writing quality and breadth of the line using a Conklin medium as a starting point. Thanks.

kpcorbinI have a Conklin Glider with a broad nib and I find the Conklin broad to be similar to other manufacturer's medium nibs, if that helps. I can't say what the medium would be like, I have no experience with it. FYI, I have an ink obsession and prefer broad or double broad nibs.....since we have such beautiful inks, it's nice to show them off. Best.

dholik8503Thanks for the reply. I'm leaning towards medium rather than fine.

How is it possible to measure the number of words written with the said gauge?

This pen reminds me of the really old gas pumps that had a spinning ball in a yellow'ish bubble gauge that indicated that the gas was being pumped. I think Conklin has captured the vintage look perfectly - a yellow'ish ink window plus the engraving. While the word count gauge isn't going to be accurate in many cases, it's non-obtrusive. This pen appeals to me for it's vintage aesthetic.

StpnYeah, it's friction-fit. Easy-peasy to change.

although I don't intend to buy any FPs other than Pilot, this piston filler is reasonably priced.

I checked the Conklin site. There is indeed a blue one available, but both the black and blue have that nasty yellow ink window. The pen is tattooed with branding all over the place. Who designs these pens?
