I tried and mostly failed to use this grappling hook twice. The first time, I tried to get a branch off the roof of my garage. The grappling hook stuck right under a shingle, so then I had to climb on the roof to get it out to prevent damage to the roof. The second time, I had a large dead branch hanging in a tree in my yard. I tried to use this grappling hook to pull it down safely. The result was quite the opposite. I pulled a bit harder than I should when the dead branch got stuck on some other branches, and the grappling hook came rocketing straight for me, and embedded itself in my big toe. It hurt a lot and took a few weeks to heal. During the same debacle, I snapped all but one of the tines off, so I now have a single-tine grappling hook that has tasted human flesh.

$2 off CountyComm pricing? Really working that deal hard there, aren't you Drop?
oh good I lost the last one battling my foe 'the Monarch'. He is not very powerful as far as arches go. But he has so many henchmen? God damned trust fundie villains.

StpnI actually wish I had one of these on a mountain hike a couple years back. A friend's hat blew off his head and landed on the edge of a cornice. We eventually got it back using a rock and paracord (after screaming at him as he started walking out onto the snow) but it sure would have been easier with something like this. You never know when these gadgets come in handy (others have mentioned geocaching, drones stuck in trees etc.). I don't really understand all the hate in so many of the comments. They're small and lightweight so if I want to keep one in my pack, who cares?

The smallest one, Pico, is actually 24.95 on the CountyComm website, not 27.00 as seen in the strikethrough price.

Lot of ignorant comments here. This grappling hook is for functions like tossing a line over a high tree branch when outdoors to keep a food bag away from bears. It's not marketed as something for you to use like a Navy SEAL (ie, rappelling down a cliff). It's not exactly EDC, but it's still freaking cool. I have several CountyComm products and they're all high quality.

This isn't a matter of subjectivity. Inform your ignorance with the product description from the manufacturer: "The pocket grappling hook was originally built by EOD Robotics, Inc. at the request of a desert warfare operator. He explained his need for a light weight, reusable grappling hook that could be used to snag trip wires or command detonation wires on IEDs in a combat environment. Soon other members of the military saw how useful they were and ordered another production run." So as you can see it's not a needless product. Just because it might be needless to you doesn't mean that it is needless to everyone else.

Vigilant"...Soon other members of the military saw how useful they were and ordered another production run." ... aside from this being a specialized product originally developed for specialist situations.. it really is useless for the general public...
  • "Oh did your hat get blown away by some wind, what it's on that 'ledge' over there?? .. lemme get out my grappling hook...
  • "What? you're saying those tiny branches are 'in your way'?, here, lemme get this grappling hook out...
  • "Wait a minute, you're now telling me you dropped your umbrella in the mall fountain on the level below us??, I got just the thing..."
Ps, ex-mil here and in reality, the military does provide its troops with everything necessary...
  • lol.... unless youre engaged in desert/jungle warfare and are surrounded by everything lethal and just have nothing to get yourself out of that situation other than that trusty grappling hook specifically designed for that moment.
  • (I just had to come back and write that in there, sorry...)
