ZerpendipityHey there, the Z has a 600 Ohm headphone amp allowing it to power standard 32 Ohm headphones all the way up to extreme high end studio / critical listening headphones at 300 and 600 Ohms.
The Katana has a high-power headphone amp as well but it's only designed to power standard 32 Ohm headphones / gaming headsets.
ZerpendipityThe Katana is first and foremost a desktop speaker. The amp included is a very good one for 32ohm headsets / headphones which 95%+ (probably closer to 99%) of people using headphones / headsets at a desktop will be using.
That being said..we're always listening to the customer base so we'll keep this one in mind for future iterations.
Anyone using a standard 32ohm headphone or headset isn't going to be disappointed.
brollyCreative is a business. What would be the point in including almost every feature that the x7 and ZXR provide and putting it into the BlasterX? Think Mcfly!
brollyHe already answered the question....
1. The BlasterX handles up to 32ohm headphones very well but not anything above that.
2. Creative is willing to listen to the customer so perhaps in future iterations.
Got it? Good.
DigitalRonynSo would you not recommend the Katana for people that have 150-250ohm headphones?
Thanks in advance for the only answers that I care to read :)
brollyBrolly, I wouldn't recommend it unless you were going out from the headphone port on the Katana into a dac / amp that was meeting the spec of the headphones (designed for over 32ohm). For the vast majority of gamers / users Katana will be more than adequate.
DigitalRonynThanks again for the response. My desk is so limited in space so Im looking for any excuse to buy this lol. Just wondering when these will be in stock on your site? Dont worry I wont hold you to it, call you a liar and claim to have been had cause Im not a petulant child. :-)
Its the weekend, go relax!
brollyHey Brolly,
We're working on getting our stock inline on Creative.com. The very first set of units to leave our warehouse were reserved for and have been shipped out to Massdrop and we had a TINY amount of units hit our European store (which is what some folks here ran into). We're hoping to get going maybe before Xmas..but this is 100% up to our factory run and shipping timetables (the holidays are insane).
ZerpendipityAs a headphone amp its way better than the Soundblaster AE-5 for my HE-4XX headphones. Surround sound at 50 vs. Immersion at Wide with my EQ Settings for them sound completely different from one another with the Crystalizer set to 96 on both. Vocals sound warmer and more airy with the Soundblaster Katana compared to the Soundblaster AE-5 Soundcard.
