How should I gauge if this is good given that there appear to be no reviews?

fireWith all due respect to 'massdrop'...one thing I have observed with them...throughout the years is this: Mind you I know NOTHING about this product, its features, or anything...massdrop is a consumer site...meaning it 'posts' products which bring it profit/revenue...the ones that bring it 'more profit' come up more than those that don't. So, suffice to say that if it's on 'massdrop' it's likely something that they're willing to 'take a risk on' (and keep in mind that based on financial observations of previous drops - they 'make' their money on shipping and handling) they think they MIGHT make money on this. More simply: they're a company that buys goods from others and sells it to you...and with no disrespect to them...often times this includes 'wild card's...which this is, I suspect a 'wild card' (remember it costs them little to 'make a post' (ala, create a sale/drop) and see what becomes of it) than really seeing if it 'pans out' to a credible/viable product...simple fact is: if the merchant couldn't 'get it to market' without last ditch efforts (ala massdrop...and I mean no disrespect to them/company/employees), it's probably not that great. In my honest and humble opinion of massdrop...they 'bring to market' some exceptional 'boutique' sellers...meaning the 'one off' or 'hand crafted' producers (meaning the guys that can benefit from massdrop's advanced 'audience' and perhaps increase their 'per unit offering, they are GREAT...and if they 'make a profit' in the process...AWESOME...they're employing people...making profit/keeping in business...etc...etc...all GREAT THINGS that's SO much better...besides...they DO introduce to a 'larger audience' a wide and varied product listings. --- but on to the 'meat' of this response...they (massdrop) ARE just a re-seller and should be treated as such...meaning pointing out the negativity in any product may not be in their best interests...which means...simply...if there are 'no reviews'...tread lightly (ala 'caveat emptor' (buyer beware)). ... ... ... now, before you 'go saying' - I have the UTMOST respect for 'massdrop'... they have EXCEPTIONAL customer service and some good ( honestly some better than other -> I'm looking at you Danny Milks) agents/posters...but 'in the end' they're just a company...a company I'll point out willing to 'take a risk' and bring some of those boutique makers (and some bigger than that) to 'market'...if you buy here, you support them in that endeavor (as you're unsure of whether this is a worth purchase or not, kind of not relevant) is up to you . I wish I could provide you more 'info'/experience with this product, but I cannot...just felt like 'typing' I suppose. Suffice to say: If you've read this far...that any widely experienced 'consumer product' shown here on massdrop is probably more of a hail mary than a 'bargain' for you...those 'one off products' that are hand crafted or produced in limited quantity. definitely a 'boon' - that being said...remember also...support the company that supports those 'one offs'...otherwise they'll become 'zero offs' (did that make sense?)...meaning...support those companies that support the companies that produce goods that you're willing to put your hard earned money into. So, remember, they're not like 'wally world' or 'amacrap' where they bought 1000 units and need to 'unload' them...they lose nothing other than time, and a blog post' if you're unwilling to commit and/or 'don't buy' - I wish I could help you with reviews of this...it is probably a good product as creative rarely produces crap...good luck bruddah...it's your money (last I checked harder to get than spend)...but I will say, it is yours and spend it how you want).

fireHey Outofmemory,
We actually went with Massdrop for the launch of this flagship of ours for the very (good) reasons you point out.
I said it in the press release...we know Massdroppers know their stuff, and the "not so good" stuff gets called out really fast.
We feel the Katana is going to meet and exceed expectations and we're comfortable putting it up to the challenge of living up to what Massdrop customers expect. A product at a great price that kicks ass. Whether it's a knife, or wallet, or mouse, or a under-monitor audio system.
Katana is part of the strategy we have to modernize desktop audio and we've been working on iterations of it for a few years now...improving on the formula and looking at feedback from other products that simply can't do what Katana does because they don't have an audio processor or are trying to wedge a living room soundbar into a desktop space (Very different listening situations I think you can agree!)
Looking forward to what customers say about it once they have them...that's also part of the bigger picture with Massdrop. If you deliver a hit...the fans will speak for you. We think Katana is going to change desktop speakers for PC whether it be gaming or just entertainment in general in a great way.
