Brasstown, North Carolina’s Elmer Roush knows a thing or two about the battlefield. As a Vietnam vet and lifetime blacksmith, he has over 40 years of experience handling weapons and tools. Drawing on that experience, Roush created the Birler for CRKT. A field axe, an emergency weapon, and a handy tool in the line of duty, the Birler features a 5.2-inch blade made from 1055 carbon steel. The handle, made from Tennessee hickory, is shaped for a comfy feel in the hand without being unwieldy. Through CRKT’s Forged by War program, veterans like Elmer Roush and many others are able to help out those in need. Ten percent of CRKT’s net profits are donated to the charity of the veteran’s choice. In this case, that charity is the Green Beret Foundation.
