Just got mine: (this is not a rant; it's an honest assessment and inquiry. )
I am shocked at the poor finish. The quality is sub standard at best. At the very least I will need to sand the whole handle, apply boiled linseed oil, and beeswax. That acomplished I'll move on to shaping the profile and sharpening the blade. (It looks like it barely touched a grinder (belt, wheel or other) ... which brings me to my question..and assumption...are we getting factory seconds? This is an honest inquiry... that is the only reason for this level of craftsmanship. So I'll ask ...
Massdrop, are these factory seconds?
lets assume the answer you get is, no.. how do you know they aren't sending seconds? Do you inspect?
Im going to tell you , the one I got should not have passed any inspection.

NealPI wondered this myself a few times. Mostly with Magic cards I've bought here, the print quality is slipshod at best.

NealPI doubt they're factory seconds. Sadly, I think this particular product just sucks. I bought one from a retailer and it was awful. See my previous posts in this thread. The head on mine was loose and I hadn't even taken it out of the packaging yet. I sent it back for a refund. Wasn't even messing with CRKT Customer Service on it. You can read similar reviews on Amazon.

NealPI guess I am just curious why people still buy this. Plenty of posts are here and reviews online warning of the poor quality this product. Granted the designer is a vet but this product was outsourced to Asia with little to no QC. Yet there is another drop for this that is likely to succeed.

NealPIt's sad because I really love CRKT knives. This hatchet just falls mad short of what I expect from CRKT. Get a Granfors Bruks at about twice the price (and no headache or regret) or a Husqvarna for the same price and much better quality.

Fishdoc5920You might concider Council tool. Compared to GB they are a good starter axe and less expensive.
