Originally trained as a jeweler and watchmaker, Matthew Lerch understands the precision behind tools, instruments, and of course, knives. The Directive is a display of that attention to detail, and while it’s not ostentatious by any means, its highly functional design can tackle anything from opening packages to cutting rope and piercing cans. The 3.6-inch blade (available in a modified tanto or clip-point design) is made from corrosion resistant 8Cr14MoV stainless steel. To further resist the elements—and to help maintain a low profile in the field—it’s covered with black oxide coating. A sizeable choil at the base of the blade is great for choking up during tasks that require more precision. The handle is made from GRN with slanted grooves for a secure grip. Strategic jimping on the blade spine and backspacer further accentuate a strong hold.
