Product Description
The latest from master knifemaker Ken Onion, the Helical came to be when Ken postulated what it might look like if he twisted the rectangular handle of a knife in a vice grip. The result, like any other Ken Onion design, is an ergonomic-feeling folder with plenty of utility Read More

Ok at best.
Nice blade. Action is poor. I had to send it back to get a replacement because at times I couldn't open the knife. The replacement worked a little better but not by much.

Found the slim handles a bit finicky to open and also slippery. The flipper action is also not great

Brother in law likes it a lot. Little uncomfortable in the hand. Finish good overall though.

The flipper takes a TON of pressure to release the blade and even then, you’ve gotta give it a flick. It looks exactly like every other assisted open knife (esp with the price) but it’s not. Unfortunately, I can’t return it because the description doesn’t actually say “assisted open.” I’m trying REALLY hard to sell it.

For the price of this knife I am severely disappointed. You practically have to take a hammer to the flipper to open the knife. First and last CRKT purchase.

I was surprised that it did not snap open like all of the Ken Onion knives I’ve had. This did not seem to improve with opening several times. I do like the feel of the handle. I specifically purchased because it was a Ken Onion design but I was disappointed that it did not have the smooth and effortless opening like a Kershaw Leek or Onion. Would not recommend this knife if asked.

Beautiful looking knife (love Ken Onion designs - those are all 3 stars on this review), but as another reviewer commented, the action is absolutely terrible. Have to practically attack the flipper to get this thing open. And like the other reviewer, I had to adjust the pivot screw to get the blade properly centered, which only made action matters worse, even when backed off a bit. Overall, pretty disappointed with the unit. Probably wouldn’t purchase again.

Installed Washers = Subpar CRKT Customer Service = Outstanding I had high hopes for this new crop of CRKT knives, as I’ve been fairly unimpressed in the past. Every time I get one, I say “this is the last one.” Intrigued with the non-traditional shape for a Ken Onion collaboration, and the upgraded materials (D2 blade and phosphor-bronze washers) I surmised that the overall quality may improve. Though it is visually appealing, the flipper action is too tight, the blade was off-center (big time), and the overall feel is a little cheap. That’s my personal opinion, and maybe I’m slightly tainted by my previous CRKT experiences; however, the knife does not live up to my experiences with similarly-priced knives from Bestech or Real Steel. They have relatively smooth actions and solid lock-ups, in my experience... and did not need immediate adjustments and disassembly upon purchase. This one does. I adjusted the pivot screw and straightened-out the blade, but that very minor adjustment leaves a small amount of blade play. The deployment action is marginally improved, but I would not say it is smooth. I will remove the washers, clean and re-oil them to see if things smooth-out. Maybe a couple hundred flips will help... only time will tell. Update: I partially disassembled the knife to inspect the washers, and they are made of a flexible plastic or nylon. Before making this purchase, I emailed CRKT’s customer service to determine what kind of pivot action is installed on the D2 version of the Helical (e.g., phosphor-bronze, IKBS, etc.). They replied via email, stating that the Helical has phosphor-bronze washers. It doesn’t... Update 2: I contacted CRKT’s customer service, and they are quick to respond and resolve the situation. This production run in fact changed to nylon washers, but since they informed me tht the Helical would include phosphor-bronze washers, CRKT offered to install or to send me phosphor-bronze washers for self-installation. I opted for the self-install, which I will do when I get some time this week. Great customer service CRKT!

CatbertCBI took my D2 one apart to try to relube and get the opening action smoother, and it's also nylon/plastic washers. The blade is also quite badly off center, bad enough that the black finish is wearing off in places from contacting the handles.
