personally, this is a sexy looking little axe, but I think the gerber gator combo axe II would be a better choice & cheaper. On the other end of the spectrum the Council Tool Wood Craft axe is expensive but an amazing AMERICAN made axe.
Really... this thing is back... didn't see it do that well last time. Recent activity show's roughly 1 purchase per day. MD - give us better pack axe options!
I recently researched smaller "pack" axes and settled on the council tools hudson bay axe, with belt sheath it clocks in at roughly the same price, is 6 inches longer on the handle and fits perfectly in the side pockets/compression straps of my pack(s). All the reviews of the CRKT were less than stellar but I don't know if I saw this particular axe.
Edit: My purpose was wood processing (light chopping/splitting) and after I touched up the blade with a sharpening system the Council Tools axe has been working very well for my purposes.

I have 3 CRKT knives and all of them have been adequate but not astounding and shipped dull enough that they wouldn't cut denim. I'm also not sure why this is so expensive, for the price I can get a good axe, decent hatchet and sharpening stone shipped to my house.
