@Massdrop, @JonasHeineman: which version do we get, first or second generation??? In the pictures is the black one the original and the grey version is second generation (Tao 2). Since the use a different cap closure I prefer the Tao 2, as the grey one om the picture, because of the snap closure instead of the screw on closure.

Hmm... How shall I fight with it, cap on, or cap off?

To be honest, it does write pretty well, as far as ink delivery goes, but balance is horrid with the cap screwed on the back. And the ridges all over it aren't the most comfortable for any extended writing. If you want a pen you can use for longer periods of time, try the maratac embassy pen. You can't put the cap on it either, but it is well machined and doesn't look über tactical like this pen, while still being a good defensive option.

Qball50I really like the brass maratac I have, it is definitely hefty, but machining is great. No springs inside either. I had one tao pen that the threads stripped out in, the replacement got a dab of blue loctite and has been fine for a few years. It ended up going to my brother and he used it a lot. If being able to screw the cap on the back is a needed feature, the tactical keychains titanium pen would be a great option. I have a brass and ti one of those that's very nice.

Everyone is talking about how good it performs in combat, how it can stab through anything, etc. But does this actually write well?

KingGhidorahBased off some quick research it seems to use the Fisher Space Pen refill which is a solid performer, but it also sounds like it is compatible with Parker refills which write wonderfully.

KingGhidorahThe Fisher Space pen cartridges write wonderful. I use those refills as standard in all my pens for a few years now and they never let me down. I will highly recommend those! And yes, Parker refills are also compatible. To be able to fit a Fisher refill you need the little (white) adapter which will be provided.
