Those of you arguing about the price should be aware of this: the cheaper versions are from Delux, and this is from CST. The difference? A logo. Can Massdrop be blamed for CST selling a rebranded item at a higher price? The last time they tried a drop for the wired version, the same conversation came up. I went straight to eBay and bought the Delux one shipped from China for much cheaper then. So yes, if that's how you feel then do that. Do we really need dozens of people saying the same thing? One person says the information that others can read, and we all move on our way from this drop. Or people who don't read the discussion can fall right in.
As far as the software side of things, the Delux ones work just fine with CST's Superior-X software.
Anyone with experience with both ergonomic mice like this and trackballs care to share? I would've seriously considered this drop had I not already had a Slimblade that is working very well for me.
I got this from Canada Computers about a half a year ago, it's comfortable but it strains my thumb after using it for a long time.
I switch between the regular mouse and this one and it's great.
Overall I think the 3M mouse is better ergonomically, but usability wise this is easier to use.
I won't comment on the price of this particular drop (for those of you living in N America you can definitely find this unit cheaper elsewhere), but I will comment on the unit itself.
I've been a regular user of Evoluent products for at least 7 years now, but bought the wired version of this CST mouse on a whim. I found the CST unit to be far superior in almost every way. Hand placement is better, the mouse is lighter (which I like), and it has that "duck bill" attachment for those who also want wrist support. I even think the buttons are better, but obviously this differs from person to person.
One thing I really like about this mouse is that it does NOT have the third "pinky" button, as the Evoluents do. While that button seems like a good idea, in real-world use that thing is constantly being triggered, so much so that I disabled it. While I can already hear people bleeting "you should be more careful", a) the button is incredibly sensitive, like half a millimeter sensitive, and b) it's hard to move a mouse using just the rear of your palm, while concentrating on other things. Even with the 3rd button disabled, however, it still triggers something within the system, because during, say, select events, if the button is inadvertently pressed while scrolling down, it unselects whatever you've selected thus far. Basically, it's a pain.
Anyway, long story short, this mouse is far better, IMO, than the Evoluent, at a far lower price. It's my go-to ergo mouse now; and it's cheap.
Note: I do have small hands.
Evoluent Vertical Mouse is good, but although it looks big, and is compared to other mice, I still find it's too small so I hold it in a claw grip. My hands are large but not freakish, usually XL gloves. 210mm palm base to finger tip.
I like the look of this because of the large lip but would prefer a wired version.
I am very impressed that for once the shipping to the shipping to the UK is incredibly reasonable (though both the item and the shipping are cheaper on Amazon UK).
I can vouch for this mouse, it working pretty well. Took a few days to get use to though. The thing I really like about it is that the palm rest is large and prevents your hand from coming into contact with the desk top (unless you have very large hands - I have large hands and it works for me).
