I got the 5w at the last drop. I'm pretty disappointed. It's my least favorite trackball compared to the Sanwa MA-WTB40, Kensington Expert, and the Kensington Slimblade.

jellenbergerIt all boils down to smoothness and button placement. It is by far the least smooth out of the bunch. The steel rollers don't gunk up as much as the bearing points on the other trackballs, but it comes at the expense of smoothness (and yes, this is after break in.) The middle click button and the scrollwheel are in the worst possible location as well. While the Sanwa also has an awkward placement for the scrollwheel and middle button, it is far preferable to to the CST. Kensington's scrollwheel and spinning ball are very intuitive and very easy to reach. Additionally, I like the four quadrant button layout on the Sanwa and Kensington trackballs. As a right handed guy, i can reach the bottom left with my thumb, the bottom right with my pinky, and the top right with my ring finger. The only difficult to reach button is the top left one, since I usually keep the index finger on the ball. You can create your own buttons for the CST if you get the 5w, but you have to place them further away from the ball since the two large buttons already take up a lot of space.
As far as advantages, the CST has a slightly larger ball. It is also is easy to replace with a billiard ball. If you scratch the ball on the Kensigntons or Sanwa, I wish you good luck on trying to find a replacement. Also the CST has the best resolution and tracking of the bunch. It can be changed by using the middle and right click buttons. However, if you use software that uses the same click combination, you're in for a frustrating time.
The software that comes with the CST is just a rebranded version of X-Mouse Button Control. Changing the button layout with this software will change the button layout on all pointing devices, whereas Kensington's and Sanwa's software only affects a specific trackball.
