Product Description
The CustomArt FIBAE is a high-end six-driver IEM with the world’s first Flat Impedance design (patent pending). The result of months of hard work and countless hours of testing, its frequency response is closely based on that of its predecessor, the Ei.xx, with improvements to accommodate feedback from the Massdrop community Read More

At this price you're better off getting the Kaiser 10 Universals for 80 bucks more.
Those make these sound muddy.

Look at their fibae 2 on custom arts website it matches your description
FIBAE 2, for sure would be good pick with this description, for half the price.

A bit of an unusual question here... While all source I listen to are well encoded, I do not listen to lossless. Additionally these would mostly be for traveling (flight, trains)/walking around, not for desktop listening. I do have an AudioQuest Dragonfly Red I use before plugging any IEMs into my phone, or nice DAC/amp to use at home or in the office if I ever get to that.
I have uneven ears and finding the right tips on IEMs is a pain in the ass. Additionally my ears aren't too keen on IEMs in general vs. other phones with drivers further away from the ears. I was wondering whether a CIEM with a) better fit b) better resolution c) better seal would be a solution for me in this case.
I had been curious about the FIBAE2, and the FIBAE ME seems well-priced but I worry it would be 'too' resolving for MP3s/Spotify Extreme (note that with Schiit Jotunheim + Sennheiser HD650s, I cannot tell the difference between Spotify high quality and the same song in FLAC).
I listen mostly to extreme Metal genres, so note separation, in particular in the bass and mids, is critical. Treble cannot be fatiguing. Does it seem like CIEMs in general, and the FIBAE ME more specifically would be a good solution for me? Asking to those with similar experiences :)
Thanks!
pottHi,
Thanks for your questions.
Let's start with shape - generally speaking large number of our customers come to us with that exact problem - their ears are different - some times drastically different not only in canal but also in concha altogether. Custom molding solve this issue. Falling out earphones are no longer a problem, the IEM locks itself in place and should stay there until you remove them :)
Quality of files - you should definitely hear difference in files, then again if you are using spotify on highest quality you should be fine. For example I use spotify a lot too and while I do hear some difference between flac files of the same track the difference is negligible and if you are in busy environment (metro, bus) I don't pay attention to that.
I listen to metalcore, hardcore, prog on daily basis. The FIBAE MEs have some heavy bass which isn't the fastest in the world but in my opinion it does well in metal. It's been tested with some heavy tracks during tuning process to make sure it copes with speedy drums and low tuned strings. If you would accept say IE80 IEM for metal, then FIBAE ME will do just as well if not better, as typically BAs have faster transient response than dynamic drivers.

CustomArtThanks all :) Indeed my thought pattern follows most of what both of you said, it's nice to have good company! I've had no luck finding any place around here open in weekends that'll do ear impressions; I'll keep on looking and join the drop if I do find one!

@CustomArt Need info/advice; my context: If other headphone gear enthusiasts knew my sound signature preferences, they would probably consider me a massive basshead. I just got a Unique Melody Merlin V1 secondhand reshelled earlier this year, looking at these FIBAE ME as an upgrade. Dead stock, the Merlins were VERY spiky in the treble, at the edge of my treble tolerance even when driven by a <1 ohm source, completely unlistenable out of cell phone jack with higher output impedance than 1ohm. I had to mod the Merlins by increasing the damper value on the twin TWFK units from 1000 to 2200 ohms, but even after that I still have to pEQ out a 5dB spike at 7.5kHz to smooth out sibilance. Even with the dynamic bass driver and the mods, the Merlin does not have the visceral bass impact of my much cheaper LZ A4, also a hybrid IEM. What I mean by this is that even when the Merlins have more measureable output, detail, and texture in the bass, they lack the guttural weight of the LZ A4 bass 1/2

Ended up caving in and joined the drop with only 15 minutes left to spare, because apparently I like to live dangerously... But seriously, your quick and helpful replies were what made the difference when agonizing over and finalizing my decision to buy, and I can't wait to start this journey of getting a custom IEM built. Oh, and as always, RIP wallet, you had a good run while it lasted ;)
tz0531Thanks for participating! Appreciate it and I really hope you will like FIBAE ME!
I remember CustomArt having great CIEMs with amazing prices. What happened... Custom One had an amazing price for entry now. Just like all the other companies, the more they grow, the more they sell, the worse is the pricing....

KamranSailorLatifovSorry ? Seriously ? Their FIBAE range is one of the cheapest CIEM range on the market. Harmony 8.2 is their TOTL CIEM and cost about 1100€.
How did you come to the conclusion that it is getting more expensive ?
This FIBAE massdrop Edition is positioned between FIBAE 3 and 8.2, pricewise. Of course it is still more expensive than previous Ei.XX drops since it is a Ei.XX / FIBAE crossover, but I think it is more than justified.
Go to their website and check prices against Noble, UE, Empire Ears or other "famous" CIEM brands. And then you can come back here and comment more objectively...

What's the isolation like on these? I read somewhere that it has a vented/ported bass driver, will that affect the isolation?

Lots of nice wood faceplate options. I’ve heard great things about the FIBAE series, but I’m not sure about the limited 5 day drop window. Also, it might be better to offer a choice between the FIBAE 1, 2, 3 & 6.
For anyone interested, you can read about the development & sound signature of the FIBAE 6 here - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/customart-fibae-impressions-thread.854355/page-45#post-14064784
Piotr’s enthusiasm really shows. Big shout out to Piotr, Matt & MD for this collaboration.
