This is a TKC1800. Do I need all four kits to cover all the keys on this? Alphas Numpad Modifiers Specialties Thanks in advance And I thought my fountain pen habit was expensive :)

LuscombeAre you sure you're using that nauseating nonsymetrical bottom row? I don't know the exact breakdown, but the 'OG' winkeyless 1800 layout might be cheaper in addition to being sexier

RayndalfGood question. I could live without it. Where can I source the OG winkeyless 1800? I am new to this so need all the help I can get. Thanks

anonymoussI have been looking at a lot of keyboards and cap sets trying to find a set that appeals. Most were meh, a lot were no thanks. This set just screamed at me. I have an aviation interest and family members that served in the Navy and my daughter graduated from the Naval academy. This cap set rings all the bells. Once you get emotionally involved in a product purchase, yeah, it's a very slippery slope. The TKC1800 seems like a potential end game board, lots of love given, and I need a numpad. The board drop is active for 6 more days.

LuscombeThe price of old 1800s is mostly in the caps. Elecshopper has a few with some unusual legends and vintage blacks (replacing the circuit board with a TKC1800 PCB, new stabalizers and a plate is pretty straightforward), but its probably the same price as buying the TKC kit and the WoB GMK set here on massdrop, only with more interesting legends and a few scrapes. Also check mechmarket, and the deskthority and geekhack classifieds, 1800s (MY switch versions can sometimes work for caps and the case and go for less) appear from time to time for ~$100

LuscombeThe tkc1800 pcb allows for symmetric 2x1.5u on the right side btw

NoletiI read what you said but I am not sure where you are referring. I get the 1.5u but not which locations. You are talking to a total nube here. I am using the GMK configurator to get a handle on the key layout and am rather confused as it does not reflect the keys and some sizes in the photo on the TKC1800 drop. For instance the second row from the top shows 14 keys in photo and 15 on the configurator. https://config.qmk.fm/#/tkc1800/LAYOUT Learning curve is pretty steep. In the mean time, I bought a Ducky one with Cherry browns and picked up a Corsair K63 with Cherry Reds. These boards will hold me over at home and work until July when the drop ships:)

LuscombeI never used the qmk configurator , I directly compile firmware locally. But I assume you are referring to split backspace VS normal backspace. In that case, the second to last of the 15 keys in configurator can probably be ignored (or you set it to same as 15th key). I was referring to right ctrl and right alt (1.5u setup) vs right ctrl, right gui, right alt setup (1u). Likely configurator will allow to configure 3 keys, out of which you can ignore 1 if you use the 1.5u setup

NoletiGot it, thanks, I am sure it will make more sense once I get the board and begin the programming for these keys.
