I will be the first to give a nod to this amps detractors. I believe you when you have issues, it is highly possible that this manufacturer may have quality control issues that makes buying one of these amps a bit of gamble. However, if you get a good one, as I did, it is a $200 dollar power house!
I originally purchased this amp to drive a pair of Phillips Uptowns, that I had just never been really happy with because of overall lack of volume and bass with just normal CE gear (although my Microsoft Surface book was better than most). This amp really delivered! It makes me wonder if the the 32ohm rating on the Phillips is accurate. Anyway, I now really enjoy listening to those headphones.
I'm also currently driving 600 ohm Beyerdynamic DT990s with this and it would be unsafe to listen with the volume past the 9 o'clock position (roughly 25%) for any amount of time!
This amp really helps tame the reportedly hot treble of the DT990 and makes listening to them an absolute joy.
I would say where this amp really shines is vocals, every vocalist from J. Roddy Walston belting out "Brave Man's Death" to old Neal wailing out "Southern Man" on 4 Way Street just sounds amazing. I've read reviews that negatively reflected on the DT990's ability on vocals in particular, but with this amp they are truly a pleasure.
Classic EDM also sounds great through this amp; bass is always tight and controlled, never bloaty or boomy. Real "bassheads" may not get quite as much sub-bass as they may wish, or that my be my headphone collection.
It also look pretty awesome, mine has a flawless finish and all badging is squared up nicely.
