Hi everyone, i'm buying this to compliment my Beyer dt 880. I live in India so should I take the risk buying these knowing that these have a very badly reputed qc issue at least in this community...thats how the members explained it, isnt it??
Many report a humming sound, many that don't have any issues never talk about it again.
I never got this amp, however if it does hum you can replace your power cable with a mono price one (more shielding therefor less interference) and if nothing changes get a shielded cable from your dac to your amp.
if that doesn't fix it try a different tube.
Or, you could just see if they'll warranty it, or not join the drop. The monoprice cables are less than $6 each if I remember right so not much, however a good replacement tube would be around $20-$30 and not only could fix hum but improve overall sound.
the choice is yours
Thanks for quick reply, i really don't i'm covered with the warranty service at all in India, these are not being sold officially in India, so no chance of replacing the tubes, i'll buy some extra tubes from Amazon and ship the whole thing together in that case
Tubes are compatible with a ride variety of brands. I suggest recieving it first and then deciding if you need to change tubes, and by tube rolling I mean trying different kinds of tubes, not the same tube but seeing if one works or not. There's lots of info on head-fi.org about what tubes are best with the darkvoice as it's a very common amp.
I know it man, i saw many guys referring to some specific tubes bought separately
which i don't recall right now, and somehow they believe that it can even improve the overall sound than the original tubes. Actually if i could ship them together then i can save a lot but thanks again
I only get a hum with certain tubes. My RCA pre amp tube gets no buzz at all, my ken rad gets a bit of one, haven't had a weekend to try burning it out. The china one it came with gets a bad buzz.
Thanks for your reply, i'm not going to get these because i dont really want to compromise the quality for a lower price, its like that u get what u pay for and is not like the hd 6xx drop. I really wanted a proper reliable tube amp which will run for years without any issues because its really expensive to ship it to India. Can u guys suggest me a really nice tube amp which is not crazy hi-end and costs a lot, within $200.
It's not a ton more, I spent $65 on the two replacement tubes, $150 on a dac, if you're serious about a cheap tube amp this is about as low as it gets, you'll need to worry about tubes in any of them to find the right sound for you
Okay, so the tube is a common thing responsible for sound variation or improvement, how is build quality and everything else in the amp itself?? Is it worth $300 which is the street price, in Amazon at least ??
After having used it for a month or two straight, yes I would've paid $300 for it. Research the tubes, figure out what sound you like, that will be the biggest part. The tubes I've linked in the comments are very good if you want to hear more instrument and seems to compliment the wider soundstage of my headphone's. The headphones you have are a bit warmer than my akg 7xx, so you may have a different preference in tubes.
Thank u so much for ur personal opinion because i actually have to pay a $100 more for getting these shipped to India considering these are quite heavy and the custom duties of India are really remarkable to talk about, i'm going to get these now. I hope u realize that i wont be able to claim the warranty incase of any technical malfunctionality so i wanted to rely on something which i can use for years. U really convinced me i think I should get these
I'm not worried about the warranty at all, when my first tube went I didn't have a back up to test to verify but it was pretty open and if I had yo replace a capacitor it wouldn't have been that bad, do keep the cheap set of tubes that come with it for testing purposes
Glad I could help some, hope you enjoy it.
I will keep it as u say, no chance to avail warranty in India anyhow.
As of now i use the fiio a3 to run the beyer dt 880, so with stock tubes its still an upgrade, isnt it??
I hated the tubes that came with it, that's one part it's so cheap, it doesn't come with good tubes. EBay is your friend for tubes on a budget, just be sure your order the right one.
Thanks a lot buddy, i really appreciate u for the proper guidance. This is the first time i'm buying a tube amp so the info is a highly necessary to me.
This was my first one, spent a ton of time reading and researching on it and tubes, happy to help.
How do these compare against the LD MK II??
Only things i can recall reading difference wise between them was the ld mk 2 sounds more nuetral and less warm
LD MK II'S are currently $130 in here and $165 in Amazon, never going to buy them but just asked u out of curiosity. Dark Voice is way better and Massdrop rebate price is quite reasonable to buy
