My DarkVoice arrived yesterday. I've just spent a couple of hours listening to music through two different headphones, my Sennheiser 598Cs and the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX which arrived a couple of weeks ago.
Some observations:
1- Gorgeous music through my 6XX (300 ohms)
2- I had a hum in the beginning, which was worse in the right channel. It was significantly worse with the 589Cs, which are also much lower impedance (23 ohms). I turned off the amp, let the tubes cool down, unplugged the tubes and then replugged them making doubly sure they were well set. The second time I turned on the amp the hum had decreased substantially, and was virtually nonexistent with the 6XX.
3- After a few hours of listening, my 6XX are completely "dark", i.e. silent, when plugged into this amp.
4- These tubes get *hot*.
5- I'm very pleased with the purchase. For a budget audiophile like me, I'm thrilled there are options like this out there.
