Can anyone help me upgrade my DV 336SE to a better tube amp for under $1200? DV was my first amp and while it sounded great, it didn't have enough slam, bass and clarity in micro detail as Schiit Jotunheim. I've tried Tung-sol 7236 (for $50) and Sylvania 6SN7W (for $100) which made 10% improvement but I don't want to spend anymore on tubes which will eventually lead to costing more money than the amp itself.
I'm pretty satisfied with listening to EDM on my schiit Jotunheim. But I still find DV superior at playing rock, rap, instrumental and certain pop music as it outputs lively, natural, organic, cleaner vocal tones with wide soundstage that's pleasing to the ears. But the lack of slam, bass and clarity in micro detail is killing me. Which is why I'm looking into upgrading my tube amp.
Other gears I'm using are Schiit Eitr, Modi multibit, BLJ coaxial/RCA, Sennheiser HD600/650 with CH650s cable.
From quick research, I've been reading good things about the sound quality of Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. Could this potentially be the best tube amp for under $1200?

So why not use your Jotenheim when you need that higher detail and bass impact and use your Darkvoice when you don't need those technicalities?

If you are set on having a tube amp that performs better than DV, take a look at Lyr 3. Its new and some say the best Schiit has made so far

Ever since I've got the CH650s balanced cable, I've actually switched to using Jotunheim to listen to every genre. Although the rock, rap and pop doesn't sound as lively/organic; the slam, bass and micro detail makes up for it so it's more enjoyable to listen to. I was just looking for a tube amp that performs well in slam, bass and micro detail (which is a common strength in SS amp) while still retaining the signature tube amp's main strength of outputting lively, organic/natural sound with wide soundstage if you know what I mean.

Thanks, I didn't realise Lyr 3 was coming. Haven't been disappointed with schiit gear so far so this could be the answer. I hope it delivers in outputting lively, wide soundstage signature sound of tube amps.

Have you tried to preout from the Darkvoice to the Jotunheim? You get the best of both worlds.
