Got my DarkVoice. Really happy with it. I find the stock tubes quite good actually. The sound stage improved when I swapped in an RCA jan CRC 6AS7G, but you can effectively ignore the folks that say the stock tubes are so horrible they’re an immediate must replace. I actually like the sound of the stock 6SN7, which is good since the only other one I have is new produnction Electro Harmonix Gold, and hums horribly out of the box. Hoping it quiets down after the “72 hour” burn in procedure, but in the meantime, the stock one sounds great. Listening on HD6XX feeding it a signal from an ‘89 Sony Discman D-2 (line out).
I thought the stock tubes sounded fine as well. Unfortunately my power tube started sparking inside so I was forced to replace it
what did you go with for a power tube? I can recommend both Jan-CRC 6asg7 and Thomson-CSF 6080WA
I went with a tung sol 7236 which I think sounds pretty good but I'm not opposed to trying out other tubes as well
That one is next on my list! You get them from the guy on eBay that has a whole case of them?
yeah i did lol, i wasn't too sure what the difference was with the white, black, and red labelled ones but i just picked up the white label because it was a little cheaper and it still sounds pretty good.
Haha, that’s the only thing keep My me from pulling the trigger. Weird pricing differences with no explanation.
I even tried to look it up but couldn't find any details on it. Maybe it's just based on the year it was produced?
