What's the rated power output of this? It says it can power headphones up to 600ohms but that doesn't say much. I've seen descriptions of other headphone amps with less than half a watt of power at only 32ohms say they can power 600ohm headphones which clearly they can't. I don't doubt this is a great amp I've heard awesome things about it but I would still like to know what it's power output capabilities are before I make my purchase. I have some rather demanding headphones such as t50rp modhouse argon's, t50rp zmf classics, advanced alphas, hifiman he1000 v2, hifiman susvara, hifiman he6, several other hifiman headphones which are not worth mentioning, mrspeakers ether flow 1.1, audeze lcdx, akg k712, zmf aeolus, zmf auteur teak, zmf Atticus just to name a slight few from my collection of more demanding headphones. I'm no audiophile by any means of the word and won't pretend to be but that doesn't mean I do not enjoy nice sounding headphones despite whatever the cost may be. I've spent all my time and money on solid state amps in the past like the nfb 1amp, thx aaa 789, JDS Labs El amp, monolith liquid carbon, holographic audio ear one and the schiit jotunheim. This will finally be my first purchase into a tube amp so I'm starting small while still maintaining decent quality which lead me to this darkvoice amp by it's reviews. So yeah basically I just need to know if this will power my headphones sufficiently or am I wasting my time?

Solderboy23Have you looked into hybrid tube amps much? Those would power a lower ohm headphone better in most cases, the DarkVoice or Bottlehead crack will power/pair with 300ohm+ headphones the best from my understanding. I've only used SS amps and hybrid tube amps so far, but this is just a "boobs" understanding from his research. I am only interested in this amp now that I have the HD6xx and am going to buy the DT-1990, but most of my headphones are 80ohms and below, for that reason I really want the Liquid Platinum hybrid amp.

ls13cocoI need a tube amp with a lot of power or else I'm not even going to bother. Most of my headphones literally require a nuclear reactor to power them it's ridiculous lol.

Solderboy23Have a look at the Liquid Platinum, has balanced interconnects and balanced output, one if not the highest power hybrid tube amp that I know of :p great reviews too, besides the odd QC issue

Solderboy23Tube Data Sheets can give you a clue about how powerful an amp may be. The 6080 is a dual Triode, with each one capable of 125mA of current and 13Watts of power output. What does all that mean? A DarkVoice can drive pretty much any high impedance headphone well past a comfortable non hearing damaging level. Feed it a line level signal and anything above 50% on the volume knob is too loud for my ears.

ParagliderPlate dissipation is not the same as output wattage, just FYI.

Mike52787You are correct Sir! But the data does help give you a ballpark range. I'm uncertain the actual Output Wattage of the DV but it is certainly higher than a tube that has 4-5 Watts of plate dissipation. ;^)

ParagliderIt will drive high impedance cans with ease. I have yet to turn it up past 10 o'clock with my HD660s.
