I would state as other have to not even bother with the stock tubes. There is a huge difference between the stock tubes and a replacement set. Granted my replacement tubes are not cheap, it is amazing what this amp can do with a good set of tubes. I an running a TungSol 5998 and a Tall Tungsol 6SN7GTB. I would hop on Headfi 336se tube rolling II thread and choose a set that is in budget. Most tubes can be purchased from Ebay, that is where I got mine. I also have the Nichicon 220uF capacitors for the Fitz mod, but I have not had any issues with hum on my replacement tubes.
I definitely sounds better with higher impedance headphones (HD650) than with lower (HE350)

I love the Darkvoice as is but I want to upgrade to the better tubes like you suggested. My problem is I like to purchase from trusted sellers like Amazon, Best Buy, Massdrop. I have never shopped at EBay. I seem to be having great difficulty finding upgrade tubes though trusted sites. If the tubes that came with it are so bad I can't even begin to emagine how good it will sound once I am able to purchase new tubes. The Amp itself was a great purchase.

Fitz actually tried a bunch of caps and ended up using and recommending the Nichicon Muse 100uF caps (100V) instead of 220uF caps. Thread here post #11: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/custom-edition-darkvoice-tha336fm-arrived-56k-warning.193483/
