I don't understand, what justify the price? It's a legitimate question, not trying yo bash just to understand.
To me it looks like a normal full size board, however for the price it lacks the Double-shot PBT keycaps and any kind of backlighting Every other keyboard for this price has both these features

Sir_PlaysalotBecause it is built with extremely high quality and built to last you a lifetime. Das is one of the highest rated keyboard manufactures on the market. In the programming industry, Kinesis, Das, and CODE dominate the market.
Things that set it apart: Laser engraved key caps 2 additonal USB 3.0 ports for additional peripherals Quick toggle of NKRO over USB Has its' own firmware that gets updates over time Features top of the line MX switches with gold contacts Dedicated media controls

MrZottHmmm...i don't know, maybe i can't yet appreciate some of these features
The thing is laser engraving is nowhere near as good as double shot PBT, USB passthrough is definitely not a Das only thing but i agree it's nice to have NKRO toggle is really situtational, i guess some may find it useful but realistically speaking you could attach any keyboard with a usb to ps2 and that's done Media controls is another non Das only thing, alot of boards have it and the others usually have FN media controls Every keyboard past 100$ has cherry usually, and a huge slice of mech users agree that Gateron are better anyway. Which doesn't make cherry bad, but i mean, every keyboard in a certain price range has them
I don't know, as i said maybe i can't fully appreciate this, but i still don't see anything that would justify this price, it looks like a lot of "brand price" thing

Sir_PlaysalotDefinitely "brand price". A strong hint is the very sparse specs section. This is usually where all the selling features are listed but every single important spec in there is standard for mech kbd's.
So this doesnt sound like a biased 'hater' post, let me qualify my experience with Das.
A Das was the 1st mech kbd I bought when I first got into mech kbds a long time ago. It's the first one I stopped using and the one I used the least as every kbd I have bought since has been better than it in very noticeable ways. As an example, it uses glossy plastic all around and it can warp and has done so over the years just slightly enough that if you press down on the chassis, it creaks. I am not kidding. Its chassis is a 2-piece and they must be glued together as the gap is noticeable in some spots and is uneven all around. My OOTB Filco blues sounded crisper and feel lighter than the Das and have done so ever since, still do and I am typing this one said Filco.
I gave the Das to the gf instead of trying to sell it as she likes the clicky blues and doesnt care about aesthetics or build quality.
Now that I think about it, I also had another Das with Cherry Browns but I sold it so long ago I didnt remember until I typed this up.
It sounds a lot like the people who think highly of Das have kept themselves in a self-reinforcing 'bubble' about it which has allowed them to ignore the developments of other manufacturers that have far outpaced what Das is offering which, from what I can tell, hasnt improved much during that time, at least as far as basic functionality is concerned.

nikonf5Well...i didn't want to jump to conclusions since i didn't know much about Das, nor did i tried one, but yhea that's exactly what i thought sadly
What really baffled me was the lack of double shot PBT keycaps, which i thought were taken for granted for any keyboard above 150$, and i'm not nitpicking i believe, the keycap quality just matters too much Those keycaps look (and are sadly) the exact ones that you find on <50$ keyboards, completely unacceptable.
I'd rather have Kailh switches and good keycaps than cherry with bad ones; but i mean that's my opinion

Sir_PlaysalotI agree that the keycaps are sad, often they last a couple years before needing to be replaced with double shot. I personally went with a CODE instead of Das, because while it is also not double shot, it is a much sturdier construction and backlit.

GateronThey are. But laser engraved is at least not printed. Then again, I will probably use my own keycaps on this if I bought one.

nikonf5It seems like the Das keyboard you had wasn't a pro - I have a Das pro 4 with MX Browns that has an anodized aluminum top plate, with about 15 socket head cap screws holding it together from the bottom - no glue! In terms of build quality the thing is super solid, and the media keys are so nice. It seems silly, but the spinny volume knob in the top right is my favorite feature. It has tactile detents making for quick and precise volume adjustments. Lastly, the lack of LED backlight isn't a problem for me, since I tend to use my rig in lots of light. I have had to tear the thing down to clean out a beverage spill :'( and even the inside is well built. The injection molded back is plenty rigid, the main PCB is mounted in a metal shell, and the secondary PCB for the media buttons is set apart and even grounded to the aluminum top plate for extra peace of mind. Really the price comes down to the designer's choices to use high quality and high price parts in their design. There is a lot of machining involved with the metal parts, secondary manufacturing steps, etc that set this board apart. Sure, the switches are the same as many in the same class, but the board really shines in terms of its robust build quality! (replace the keycaps asap tho)

Sir_PlaysalotWhile it's true that PS/2 supports NKRO, converting any keyboard to PS/2 won't magically give it NKRO. It's also dependant on the hardware of the keyboard.

DennisGIt's the other way around, connecting your NKRO keyboard with PS/2 enable compatibility for those motherboards that have problems with it, i mean this is oversimplified
But the point is, there is no point in toggling NKRO outside of incompatibility issues, that can be solved by connecting your board with PS/2

Sir_PlaysalotI misunderstood you then, sorry. I built a keyboard running QMK and I don't have any problems using NKRO over USB. That said, I also prefer PS/2 for compatibility.

Sir_PlaysalotFar cheaper than any LZ full sized keyboard and he doesn't supply any key-caps at all.
For the price this keyboard is solid, durable and supplied with the very best CherryMX key switches in my opinion. Like it's weight and ease of key presses when using these switches.

Sir_PlaysalotAlong with what others said, it's a rare switch. There's only 1 main keyboard on the market with MX Clears, the CODE keyboard. Which has absolutely no extras that this has, like the media keys and volume knob and USB 3.0 pass through. The code keyboard without these features is $160 usd, and does not have free shipping, making this the same price with far more features, a deal. And yes it's not the best keycaps, but mx clears fit tighter than any other mx, so they don't be wobble as much as you might think. Either way I'm hoping to get this and swap out some of the key caps (wasd, arrow keys, enter keys and escape) with either red PBT or textured keys. But yeah main reason for price is the clear switches.
