A few months ago I decided to try the Dekoni pads, the least expensive I could find. I had heard many people give great reviews, so took the chance when they came on sale. Very comfortable and as such made the music experience much better with my AK-T1ps. The AK's can be ruthlessly revealing to the point that many consider them bright. The basic pads didn't remove any of the detail, but took a tiny bit of hardness out of them. Now I have the Elite Hybrids. Even though these are open back phones, the Elite Hybrids seem to give me more isolation and an even greater focus in the sound. The velour keeps them VERY comfortable and the inner leather with its design has helped make them even less strident, yet all the detail. Can't recommend them enough and have even ordered a pair for my HD700s. High Recommended
More comfort - softer and my large ears don't hit the inside of the cup anymore
Retains sound signature - may slightly tone down the highs
Decent build quality - not perfect but good enough
Value - not worth the MSRP price but worth it at drop's price
Beyerdynamic DT Premium Memory Foam
I purchased in hopes that my worn out original pads can rest a bit. Very comfortable but completely made the sound tinny and airy... I would not recommend this for DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm. Stay far way!
Standard Leather for Beyerdynamic DT990.
I'm not sure how they managed to do it, but the standard leather pads on my DT990s made the headphones sound horrendously tinny, yet also distant and muffled. I was hoping for something that might tone down the v-shaped sound of the DT990s, but these just completely trashed the sound quality of the headphones. I'll give them points for being comfortable, but wearing what became essentially wide open ear muffs seemed kinda pointless.
I would NOT recommend the standard leather on DT990s.
Love these ear pads (I got and recommend the sheepskin) for my M50x MUCH increased comfort, and I have to say that I don't notice it changes the sound stage.
I bought the Elite Hybrid, and I definitely do not recommend them, they look very good, they feel super comfortable, but they change the tonality of my headphones, mainly I wanted them for my DT 1990s, but it dulls the voice, even the bass, and in general the analytical / soft balance is lost. But with my DT 770s (80hhm), it gives them a stronger touch in the bass, making it more pleasant to listen to POP, but it takes away the cold and clear character. I wouldn't really use them for the DT 770 either. There should be some pads that won't change the tonality. I think it is because of the height, being wider, it separates the diaphragm ear, this is what makes the bass stronger, but at the cost of treble and detail. I do not regret the 80 dollars (plus 18 euros of taxes that I pay here in Germany), but no, I would not buy them again, nor do I recommend them, unless you want to cover the delicate tone of your beautiful headphones in some vulgar BEATS. :)
Use my humble SMSL M400 paired with my Topping A90.
I also tested them using my Astell and Kern Kann on medium gain.
Elite Velour: Very well made, comfortable, but will ruin the sound of DT 770 Pro 250 ohm
Very well made pads (Elite Velour): comfortable fabric and very high quality memory foam. However... It drastically changed the tonality of my DT 770 250 ohm! It significantly lessens the bass and adds more treble, which, in the case of this particular headphone, is exactly what you don't want, since it can be sibilant enough out of the box at times (usually balanced out by its strong bass performance, which these pads will kill off). So, for the DT 770 Pro (at least on the 250ohm variety in both my amps: SMSL SP200 and DarkVoice 336SE) this is, unfortunately, a no go.
After my AKG pads bit the dust, flaking off after a couple years of light-moderate use, these were the perfect replacements. The fenestrated sheepskin were plush, comfortable, and cool....all while maintaining a good seal. Great choice.
