The pads for the 5xx have a larger diameter than the 4xx, both inside and outside. These Dekoni pads are tuned for the 5xx specifically, as shown by the frequency graphs linked in the details section.
They're mighty comfortable too.

Edit: I should also mention that the pads for the 4XX/350/35X/X4 use a different mounting plate than the pads for the 5XX. Also, while the pads or the 5XX sure look like they'd fit on the R7DX, they do not.
FayneHey thanks for this, I didn't realize it used a different mounting ring? I got to say those pads do look beautiful on that, but yeah I was kind of hoping they fit the r7dx also! Probably am going to grab these pads to fool around with anyway, I'll post what they fit on and how they change the sound
Mastaboog749I'm 100% sure that modification of the HE-5xx pads for operation on a HE-R7DX is not going to be an easy thing. The mounting hole pattern on both sets of headphones is different, plus the mounting posts on the pads have different sizes. I bought my 5XX pads with the intent of using them on the R7DX, and since they don't fit, they ended up on my 5XX.
4xx pads work on 350, 35x, and X4, 5xx pads only work on 5xx (and maybe Deva, but I don't have a Deva to confirm), and R7DX pads will only fit on R7DX.
If you're handy with super glue and exacto knife, and don't mind a potentially destructive modification to the pads, you may be able to detach the pads from the 5xx mounting ring and attach them to the R7DX ring. I considered that, but I'll wait and see how well the cans sell. If they do good enough, there is a pretty good chance Dekoni will make pads for them.
That's a good question Chris. In my experience, when given the chance, most 'audiophile' companies opt for proprietary parts so you'll have to buy from them. Sennheiser is a notable exception to this.
I don't own either the R10D or R10P, but judging by the photos posted by reviewers of both, I'd say they do not fit. Both R10D and R10P appear to use hook and loop (~Velcro) to hold the pads on, whereas the HE-5XX (and Deva) use a more conventional set of plastic posts/clips on the earpad mounting ring slotting/clipping into plastic holes on the headphone assembly.
You might be able to DIY the eadpard hook and loop after cutting off the mounting posts/clips, but I'm not sure about the sizes lining up correctly.
Are the rings glued on as with the original pads? I'm interested in pad-rolling but the outlier ring makes it very impractical, of course. Thank you in advance!
