Very large improvement in comfort and sound quality with the Elite Hybrid pads. Overall build quality, timbre and luxurious feel make the Dekoni Hybrid the end game pad for the HE4XX. I can wear them for hours and they're much more breathable than stock. Angled frontward, these pads conform marvelously to the head, while the velour they use on the face makes the stock pads feel like sandpaper. These are very, very soft. Changes in sound characteristics were quite marked. The outer ring of sheepskin keeps you a lot more isolated (a problem with the stock pads), while the inner fenestrated sheepskin ring absorbs wrongly reflected/deflected waves and gives you a sound that is more clear.
Highs were more crisp and immediate, clearing up any of those reflected waves before they have a chance to reach your ears. The high end was even better after installing these. The bass from these planars originally had a bit of a boom, which the Dekoni sucked right up and just let the low frequencies come through without coloration. Coloration and the lack of it, is the term that comes to mind (along with extreme comfort) when describing these pads, they don't add anything, they just take away junk that doesn't belong there. All that from foam ear pads.
2019/06/10 - bought the sheepskin fenestrated... Great improvement!! sound separation, more bass and highs. Hybrids are a great choice but the fenestrated ones take to a more aggressive notch.
4XX with the hybrid pads, running balanced on x7s - pads are an excellent improvement, still flat response with very nice bass, highs, instrument separation - awesome. BUT THE PAD CHANGE IS A NIGHTMARE. g*dd*mn it Hifiman, what is going on with the pad change design.... aaarrrggghh... what were you thinking.. or not.
ISDSI vastly prefer the the beyerdynamic dt series pad system to hifiman’s assinine and flimsy plastic clip and glue design.
neither are easily swapped, but at least with the dt’s I don’t feel like I’m going to snap some expensive, yet cheaply made proprietary plastic ring that’s a pain in the ass to source (and in the case of the he5xx / Deva, apparently impossible to buy).
I bought the sheepskin pads and they are much more comfortable than the hybrid pads that come with the HE4XX. Being solid material they do get noticeably warmer after 45 minutes are so than the standard pads and may not be suitable for warmer weather.
Purchased for my HE-4XX's. I didn't have an issue per-se with the pads that came with the 4XX's, but wanted to try out a set of Dekoni Premiums. These are fantastic - comfort is amazing, and they kept the sound profile I enjoyed with the 4XX's stock.
The Dekoni pads are stiffer and thicker holding the cups a little farther than the stock Focus A pads. That's a huge plus for me. On the stock pads my ears got a little irritated from constant contact during extended use. The holes also seem to be just a touch larger. The shape of the Dekoni pads also seem to hug the curvature of my head much better, too. Overall the construction was excellent.
The sound is much more full sounding with more bass. The soundstage seemed to open up a bit, too.
I'd give these five stars if my package included the mounting rings stated in the ad. I had to order from Hifiman's website and wait. Again.
Fenestrated pads, THX 789 Amp, Micca Origen as DAC, anxiously awaiting my D70 DAC to ship. Shopping around for an XLR balanced cable for the HE4XX. (Just tried the 6XX on a Periapt balanced cable and was just as equally floored by the change in sound as the change in pads on the HE4XX.)
I liked them, Fenestrated they feel and they look excellent. I like the sound more and the quality of construction is top notch. Happy with this purchase
Extremely comfortable. With these pads these cans are more comforatable than my 6xx.
I dont notice any negative affect on the sound stage. Had an issue with the original pads being itchy.
Edit: Realized I didnt specify my purchase, elite hybrid
Much better built than the original earpads on my HE-4XX
After a couple of years, the original earpads on my HE-4XX headphones were coming apart. I got the Dekoni hybrid set to replace them. It's very comfortable, more so than the originals. It's also better built - though I was a little nervous getting the pads oriented correctly, they are clearly more durable than the Hifiman factory pads. Ask me again in a couple of years how they held up. But for now this is just the refresher my HE-4XX phones needed.
A year and a half later, I'm very happy with these earpads. They're holding up well and remain very comfortable. I'm tempted to buy another pair to go with another HE-4XX I gave a good friend.
