Got my hybrid today, was pretty good, and much more comfortable than the stock ones. The dust protectors i really didnt like since they touched my ears, but with them cut away and using the stock dust protectors, it was really nice.

sripakdee'much more comfortable' can't be a objective statement. The stock pads are already very comfortable. If comfort means a lot of cloth/mesh/velour touching your face, then yes the Dekonis are hell of a lot more comfortable.

zhouharveyI subjectively liked that my Dekoni Velour pads were thicker, also the HD 800 stock pads were kind of slick and started to feel weird (greasy) as they got older. The feeling of Velour is more familiar to me than the suede-like material used by Sennheiser, although I liked the stock (bought used) pads of my HD 800 more than the stock pads on the HD 700.

EvshrugHey buddy, did you just get the velour pads? How is the change to the soundstage? I just picked up a hd800 but the headband and the pads have all but disintegrated. Going to pick up a stock headband. Still deciding between picking up a pair of Dekoni velour or stock...

adtrisnoWe also offer the Nuggets as an option for when your headband is worn out! It will be more padded than stock ;) The change between stock and Dekoni Elite velour is fairly small on open-backed headphones like the HD 800, so it should be quick to get used to. As for the soundstage with velour pads, the material doesn’t decrease the perception of soundstage, but the increased depth of the pads may slightly increase your perception of soundstage size.

adtrisnoI’ve had the velour pads for quite awhile now. I’ll add to what I said 44 weeks ago, I like that the thicker pads also have a fair amount of give. Another friend of mine (I often refer to him as “Tin Ears,” but he’s discerning enough now that the nickname doesn’t really suit him anymore) also got a pair of HD 800 recently-ish, but his were even more used and worn down than mine or yours! Not only should the comically pancake pads been replaced long ago, but the headband was also breaking into pieces. I mean, he got it at the cheapest price I’ve seen a functional HD 800, but!!! I tried on his duct-tape flagships, and there was NO give in any of the padding anywhere... it was like wearing metal, and I could feel how it sat weird on the top of my head because of the separating band. So, I’ve really grown in appreciation for pads with give. The stock pads HAD give, and a transducer closer to your ear will perform better (and they measure better in measurement rigs), but the HD 800 still sounds great and I really want to wear mine for hours and hours at a time. Sennheiser’s stock pads are good too (while in good condition), but I’m happy with my Dekoni replacements.

EvshrugMine were actually pretty mint. I think it was barely used but was stored improperly so that the cables after the Y split were basically like coat hangers and the headband gave you "black dandruff". I hated the scratchy texture of the original pads. I thought it was only my pair but the more I read the more I think the stock pads are all like that. Hmm, alright, velour it is then. Now on to the cables :P...

DekoniAudioI'm not too interested in the Nuggets. I have a big head as it is, 2 from max I think, so I don't want to make it smaller...

adtrisnoTo hold all your brains and good taste, I’m sure! I bought a Pentaconn balanced cable (I have the HDV 820, thinking about getting a Sony ZX300 or Acoustic Research M200) from Wireworld. It’s not super pretty, but it IS super clean and balanced, no edge to my treble in my setup! I didn’t use the SuperDupont mod.

EvshrugThanks! I think... That amp is a touch out of my league, yikes! So are the cables for that matter. That costs almost as much as the HD800 :P... The official cables are 270ish. I don't really like the inflexible nature of them though. I think I am gonna browse around. Unlike the headband and the pads, these are still ok. Just curly and ugly...

adtrisnoWell, the cost of the cable it depends on the tier you choose. My stock Sennheiser cable still works (it’s in great condition actually), so I was looking for an upgrade. Sennheiser uses silver-plated oxygen free copper, and decent shielding as well, so I had to find something special if it wasn’t going to be a sidegrade or downgrade. The Sennheiser HD 800 cable is probably the nicest stock cable I own, and internally it is wired as balanced up until the SE plug. If I was braver, I could have chopped it in two and re-terminated it into balanced, with a long SE extension cord.

EvshrugOops, the official XLR cables I mean, www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/sennheiser-hd800-xlr-connecting-cable.html I wonder if balanced are going to make a big difference. My amps, both TA-20 and TA-02, have the same power outputting to XLR as 6.35. The DX7s has like twice the power to the XLR but I only use it as a DAC nowadays. Plus I have the WA7 Fireflies on my upcoming wishlist. Dekoni must be pleased we're littering their thread with a discussion about cables and amps :P. I did just join the drop for the HD800 velour pads though so there's that I guess...

adtrisnoLOL! Dekoni is all about customizing headphones to your liking, so I doubt they mind an active discussion thread ;)
