Hey Guys, saw some requests for installation video. Here is the video Tal put together for the XM3. Note the clips on the XM2 and XM3 are different which is why we had to make different pad for each. You should be experiencing better isolation with the Choice Leather, The suede has slightly less seal, but still should be comparable to stock. Below is the link for installation WH1000-XM3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oBGqABObxA WH1000-XM2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrJNW2L7_HA Hit the request button and I'm sure we can get these running again soon on Massdrop!

Obsidian6i installed them yday on my XM3. if u look at the grooves and pins on earpads against the headphones, the holes simply rest in the lower half of the earpads but will have locking grooves on the above half of the earcup. so align at the bottom and them make ur way to the top while installing. the plastic tool broke in mine while installing. Use a soft plastic spoon or similar instead. Pls comment on how they sound. i got the leather ones. Comfort is good buti feel the sound and NC as affected.

SharkhunterYes my tool broke too during the removal of the original earcups. I did feel a couple of the clips lock into place but the bottom portion on both sides feels loose still, I also had to refit the material around the clips as it was not seated properly or as cleanly as the OE Sony ones. I did do a quick sound test and fit test and immediately noticed some differences, there is definitely more space around my ears but the result is that it feels like there is less of a seal which does reduce the effectiveness of the ANC, however it’s not so much that it cancels it out. You just don’t get that “all the ambient sound got sucked into a vacuum” feeling when you turn them on. I do feel like the sound signature is slightly different as well with a slight reduction in the intensity of the bass which I actually like because I felt like it was overpowering to me on some tracks. I’ll give these new pads a shot but I’m not convinced yet to be perfectly honest. Edit: After getting the earpads properly seated and listening again I feel like I have a better impression. ANC is reduced but you won't really notice when you're listening to music actively. You will notice if you just have the headphones passively on your head. Also as a side-note, with the stock pads, turning off the ANC function the sound quality is still quite good, if not somehow better than with ANC on. The inverse is true with the Dekoni pads. Don't turn off ANC; there was a noticeable degradation in sound quality for whatever reason, but with ANC on they sound great. I still stand by my opinion that the bass is reduced with the suede pads but this is, in my opinion, not a negative attribute and it's not a huge decrease either, just enough to really balance out the sound to my tastes. Gotta keep listening, but so far, so good. Edit #2: After continuing to listen at home I was feeling pretty good about the pads as I liked the difference in sound signature and I loved the improved comfort over the stock pads. I took them to work with me (which was the primary reason for purchasing these headphones in the first place) and unfortunately it became readily apparent that ANC is diminished considerably with the suede pads. Now mind you, I don't work in an extremely noisy office but it is big and there are frequently meetings happening and lots of discussions going on. With the stock pads and the headphones switched on but playing no music I would say that most of the ambient noise is reduced considerably (though not totally removed) and with just about any music coming through even at a low volume (say 30-40%) you can basically cancel out everyone's voices. With the Suede pads the ambient reduction is very minimal with no music playing and in order to get the same level of isolation to remove the ambient office noise I have to listen at 80-90% volume which isn't ideal as it becomes distracting to work to and even uncomfortable for longer listening sessions. So unfortunately I can't use the suede pads at work and have to use the stock ones, but I will keep them around for times when it's less critical to have complete isolation.

Obsidian6You're welcome. A good rule of thumb, if you seal seems worse, the clips probably aren't locked in especially on the Choice Leather. You should get an isolation boost with the choice leather. Thx
