Sweet thanks for your feedback I'm definitely gonna give everything you said a try after my wallet gets a little break from massdrop. I also ordered the yulong dac can't wait to hear how it sounds with it. What dac/amp are you using ? Also do you recommend getting the hd650s also? Sorry about all the questions.
NguyenHey no worries, and sorry for your wallet :P

My current setup is: Yulong D100 MkII --> Project Ember / Burson HA-160 (I also have the Lyr and Bifrost combo which I am selling off).

The D100 does a fine job with the D5000's but I like adding a bit of depth to the bass and some fuller mids using my Ember. As for getting the HD 650's, personally I think the 650 is a better overall headphone vs the D5000. It is much more natural sounding and in many ways more enjoyable for most music genres (hip hop and EDM sound a bit more lively on the D5000's).

If you are willing to spend the money, the HD 650 is (imo) the best purchase at it's price point (well some would argue that the HD 600 is even better but I have never heard it). I would look on eBay for some good condition used or refurbs (mine is a manufacturer refurb and it's in mint condition) to save a bit of cash.

Having said all of that, these are just my opinions. NguyenDepends on what you're looking for. If you find the bass to be a bit too bloated and the mids a bit recessed then this mod helps to an extent.

I did not perform the last part of the mod (the additional dynamat on the front side of the driver where you need to punch/cut a bunch of holes). But based on what I have done the mid bass seems to have decreased a bit but it still hits pretty damn hard. Mids are a bit better but when compared to my HE-500's and HD 650's they still sound a bit lacking/recessed. Overall for the cost of materials and effort required (both pretty minimal) I would say it's worth giving it a shot.

On a different subject, I would definitely recommend getting replacement pads for the D5000. I'm currently using alpha pads (from MrSpeakers) with mine and they fit great and feel even better. Sound wise they kind of artificially boost the sound stage by simply changing the distance from your ear to the driver. More importantly they provide a much better seal (I found the stock pads a bit loose on my noggin) which helps to slightly increase the amount of sub bass you can hear.

Hey guys,
We are expecting to receive our shipment of the D5000 in our warehouse early in the week. And we should be able to ship out the order to everyone shortly afterwards.
So...close...now!
Just got this picture from our supplier over the weekend as they were preparing to ship the order to us. I have never seen this many D5000s in same place :)
