Is there no way to buy this in a way that doesn't cost $20 to ship to Canada? That's a bit steep and makes it pointless to buy from this website.

Our preferred shipping method (where we get the best discounts) is typically with courier companies, but they have very high customs clearing/brokerage fees so we're pretty much stuck with USPS for international shipments. USPS isn't very competitive at providing discounts even with the volumes that we ship.
This means that shipping across international borders is very costly- that's why many sites don't offer international shipping. We understand that the pricing sometimes isn't very competitive (after shipping) but unfortunately it's the best we can do. I believe if you buy multiple expansions then you'll start to see returns to scale on your order versus local Canadian prices.
We actually often lose a few dollars on our international shipping rates, feel free to check out USPS and quote out their rates for 3 pounds from US to Canada :(
