Product Description
A common request among members of the Audiophile Community, this 4-pin XLR-to-2.5mm TRRS adapter is the easiest way to connect 2.5mm balanced cables to the balanced outputs on some of your favorite amplifiers. It works with the Massdrop x MEE audio 2-pin balanced cable set and all other balanced cables currently sold on Drop, and makes a great complement to the Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Liquid Carbon X amp and the Massdrop x THX AAA™ linear amp Read More

Does this adapter actually enable the balanced signal benefits? It's heading toward a single end cable anyway?

You can't connect a single ended headphone to a balanced source, you'll damage the amplifier.

I'd love to buy this but $15 shipping to Canada for a $20 item that can fit in a padded envelop is ludicrous

Asking a very stupid question, does anyone where to get the 1/4 inch version of this into the XLR balanced output (from my amp)?

I don't think it's a good idea to have a 1/4 TRRS output. As you could connect a 1/4 TRS into the output and short circuit it. XLR4 and 2.5mm TRRS are both 4 pole connections and are a balanced output. Hence the reason you won't find many 1/8th inch or 1/4inch balanced outputs as the single ended connection is so common that people could easily short there amplifiers.

If you want to plug a 1/4 jack into your amplifer chances are it's a TRS and should go into your single ended output. If you don't have a 1/4 output and only have a 3.5mm (1/8) output then you need a 1/8-1/4 adapter. You can't mix balanced output with single ended connections!

Fwiw, I really like the KK adapters on amazon. I ended up getting the XLR-to-4.4mm version. In my case, the extra bit of cable with the adapter allows me to use portable cable lengths (1.4m) without feeling too tethered to my desktop. Expensive, but it's at least good wire.

Gee, you mean you gotta get more/different cables/adapters just 'cause you got a balanced amp? These guys got it down pat ;-) Now I wanna hear the other cans balanced. More cables otw. This get is a no-brainer. Ordered.

Drop needs to get a 4.4mm pentacon-XLR version made, as well as a 2.5mm-4.4mm pentacon adaptor.

Postal & Customs experience for my European friends: Purchased: 18th May 1st notification of shipping: 19TH May Dept. NY America: 22nd May DHL Arrival Ireland: 24th May Delivered: 28th May Total: 10 Days Purchased @ $20 ($22.50 + shipping = €21.50) No Duty charge: Less than €150 No VAT (Ireland) unit is under €25 PO Clearance €0 Total: €21.50 Cost: €21.50 ($22.50) Time: 10 days Exemplary! I might add, the packaging was excellent, off sturdy construct. The unit is housed in yet another durable, plain brown cardboard box (7.5x4x4cm) that opens/closes by means of a removable shell lid revealing a foam cut-out insert – it’s ideal storage.
