Product Description
A common request among members of the Audiophile Community, this 4-pin XLR-to-2.5mm TRRS adapter is the easiest way to connect 2.5mm balanced cables to the balanced outputs on some of your favorite amplifiers. It works with the Massdrop x MEE audio 2-pin balanced cable set and all other balanced cables currently sold on Drop, and makes a great complement to the Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Liquid Carbon X amp and the Massdrop x THX AAA™ linear amp Read More

Drop needs to get a 4.4mm pentacon-XLR version made, as well as a 2.5mm-4.4mm pentacon adaptor.

I might add, the packaging was excellent, off sturdy construct. The unit is housed in yet another durable, plain brown cardboard box (7.5x4x4cm) that opens/closes by means of a removable shell lid revealing a foam cut-out insert – it’s ideal storage.

What is this wired for? I know there are a few common wiring layouts, but the most common for a TRRS or TR1R2S is ( L+||R+||L-||R-|. A&K does (R-||R+||L+||L-| from what I know.

Anybody have any trouble with these? I am using with standard 2.5m cables that work with my Astell & Kern DAPs and I am using this with a Monolithic THX DAC/Amplifier. Hardly any sound unless I push the cable in and hold it - then I got a 'overcurrent protection' warning from the amplifier before I pulled the plug out....

Actually is wired for the Astell&Kern 2.5m plug. Received a replacement and it works like a charm. Love the sound.

I'm feeling dumb. Is this compatible with the default cable that comes with the Sennheiser HD 6xx? Or do I need to buy a separate 2.5mm cable?

You would need a separate cable. 2.5mm balanced advantages: +compact +Can be adapted to other balanced or single ended terminations disadvantages: -Pinout (which “ring” section of the barrel connects to what) isn’t standardized, so it will work with the cables sold on Drop, but not all cables from other sources - Thinner, smaller plug than standard, more easy to break (I used to see broken 3.5mm plugs in phones, this is smaller) This Drop adapter isn’t bad itself, and might be good if someone has an IEM with a cable they bought on drop, but for an HD 6XX it’s easier to just use the stock cable (3.5 plus 6.5mm adapter) and get an XLR cable for balanced (and maybe ponytail style adapters from XLR to anything else you need, IF you ever need balanced besides XLR).

Does anyone know if this would work as a clearcomm to 2.5mm? (aka does anyone know if clearcomm is a 4 pin xlr or a connector that looks v similar to one)
