Hi @dandurston - I know this isn't meant as a running vest / pack... I've long looked at the Ultimate Direction Fastpacks as a light option that would work for moving fast, carry a decent amount, and have easy access to nutrition, etc. Your pack appeals to me a great deal more, as I've had a so-so relationship with UD products in the past and I like the layout of your pack, materials, and option to have the internal frame. I'm curious how comfortable you think the shoulder straps / belt and so forth would be while running? Kinda hoping this can be my go to for just about every adventure...

finktankThat's a tough one to answer because people have different comfort tolerances and expectations, but I'll give it a shot. I'm not much of a trail runner, but a running pack needs to keep the load tight so it doesn't bounce inside the pack, and it needs to connect well to the runner so it doesn't bounce on them. This Drop 40 pack cinches up well with the side compression + roll top, so all but the smallest loads can be made secure inside. Then for the harness, it's certainly above average in terms of hugging the wearer because it has the wider chest area and very adjustable sternum strap, but it's not a full on running pack (e.g. even wider shoulder straps and double sternum straps). So if you're picturing being as good for running as a UD pack then it probably isn't, but compared to most packs it's better. I've jogged wearing mine for short sections and found it workable but if you're really looking for a pack you run a lot in then check out the Yama Sassafras.

dandurstonAppreciating all your honest and thorough responses. Just put in an order for the 2P X-Mid.. and though the Yama Sassafras looks like an excellent pack to own at some point, I'm not sure it is turning me away from this one! Will have to think about it a smidge more. Really appreciate your thoughts. And, of course, amazing design.
