After a few months of using this, my one area for improvement would be elimination of the bungee cord holding the front pocket and swapping it out for a stretchable fabric. That would allow for a second, much larger, much more useful front pocket and not risk items falling out between the bungees.

C5DrvrIndeed there is an argument to be made for stretch fabric, which would be simpler and provide a larger and more secure pocket. It seems like many people would prefer this and I may switch if we do a v2 at some point. The downside (and reason why I didn't use this) is because stretch fabrics are lower durability and often one of the first things to wear out on a pack (e.g. slip and tear it) plus it would be non-removable (unlike the shockcord) so you couldn't replace the stretch material if it's damaged, nor remove the front pocket to go lighter. So it's simple, handy and works well, but also less durable and versatile.

dandurstonI think with a little creative design, you could do both. Run a stretch fabric with a cord embedded in the outer edge which could thread through some lightweight hooks that attach to loops on the main pack. I would add more loops then presently on the main pack to reduce the size of the holes. To make it completely "hole free", a lightweight zipper could also be used. It would be removable, replaceable, and more functional.

C5DrvrIndeed there are a variety of ways to do it and some may have merit. It's hard to balance all the competing objectives because if you have durability and replaceability, but you probably lose something in terms of weight and simplicity (and vice versa). Right now there's not an update in the works, but if there is, I'll give this some hard thought to see what I can come up with. Also note that in the first batch the shockcord wasn't routed correctly so it's less secure than it should be. These two corners weren't routed around the daisy chain, which you can easily fix and then the bottom is more secure. Current packs have that routing fixed.

dandurstonThe front pocket solution is one of the main selling points of the pack. Anyone who does off trail travel sees immediately how elegant it is.
