Hi everyone! I was lucky enough to test a version of this case before it released. I added some pictures in the photo section that you can check out, but long story short: it's great. I'll be posting a review here once that section of this listing is available, but you can check out my full thoughts and a picture walkthrough here: https://www.mmorpg.com/hardware-reviews/upgrading-your-drop-alt-with-a-new-aluminum-case-and-keycaps-2000118678 Assembly is very straightforward. At the time I did the build, the instructions weren't live but you honestly don't need them if you're ever a little handy. It's really just the handful of screws on the rear plate and then the two halves separate with the diffuser sandwiched between. Just be careful when you remove the PCB as the USB-C connector lives in a little cutout on the top plate, so pull it back and then out. I've only ever built a single keyboard from a kit before and had no problems with this mod. The finish is really good. I opted for the burgundy version to match my Drop+RedSuns Samurai kit. It looks great and is a perfect match, so I wouldn't be surprised if the team here chose the hue exactly for that keycap set. Anyway, there were no scratches, scuffs, or dents to mar the surface. Putting it back together is also very straightforward. The replacement diffuser I was sent (I had the original from the Massdrop version) has little bumps which match grooves in the case, so you really can't put it on wrong. The end result is a genuinely cool customization and that fits well with the rest of the keyboard. Spending $80 on a replacement case isn't going to be for everyone, but it's an easy and fun way to make your ALT a little more unique. And let's face it: a lot of us are in here justifying spending $150 on keycaps. We are exactly the audience who would dig a custom case to match those custom caps :-D Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any, but if you check the link above you'll find more than a dozen pictures that walk through the whole process too. Disclaimer: Drop sent this product, but there are no affiliate links and I'm not making any kind of commission with my article or by posting here. I'm a massive keyboard nerd and the team asked if I would share my honest thoughts in whatever way I felt best. And what I think is that my keyboard now matches my RedSuns set WAY better than before, hah.

GBNThank you for the advice, I have two questions. For the ALT Pcb, I was wondering what the dimensions of the pcb were and if the rounded corners sit flush to the inner dimensions of the case? I'm looking to mod an alt case potentially if I could fit an aftermarket PCB inside. Thank you for any reply!

(edited for spelling errors) I bought the silver ALT case because I dislike the ALT's default neutral space grey color on my Tai-Hao Rainbow Sherbet keycap set. The silver color really makes the keycap colors pop. Very happy I received the case in perfect condition. No blemishes, no scratches, or defects of any kind. The bottom part of the case now has the updated Drop logo (just the letter "D" with the lower left side cut off a bit). Which I didn't like at all at first but after three days it really grew on me. It's very subtle and makes the busy excessive branding from the older V1 ("Massdrop Alt") logo on the back look a bit unprofessional and less like a personalized, custom keyboard. If you have the old V1 Massdrop ALT it's an absolute must to purchase the updated light bar diffuser/case feet add-on. The updated case feet is a MASSIVE improvement from V1. The case feet now have two magnets each and stick to the case very, very tightly and they are color matched (my case feet are silver, of course). The only thing I did not like (detested, actually) are the Allen key screws. Which makes me assume these cases were made somewhere in Europe (no offense to Europeans, I just don't use hex-head screws at all and don't want to be dependent on the only Allen Key that comes in the box). The screws are good quality but the included Allen wrench lightly stripped the screws when I screwed them in the first time so I took them out and used the screws from my original V1 Massdrop ALT. Which I'm assuming most people will end up doing since you already have to own an ALT if you are buying this case.

Very easy to install. Excellent quality.
Very good quality, bought the almost black as did not like the original silver case I had on the low profile model. Though this was my first attempt at disassembling a keyboard, there was no issues whatsoever and the installation of the new case was a breeze. There are plenty of videos online that show how to, incase you need help at anytime. I did see a lot of mention on the diffuser needing to be bought separately, and I did get one as a precautionary measure to avoid getting stuck with 2 pieces of useless metal. But now I understand that that was required only for those using the older version of the Alt (think it is the Massdrop one), and for the latest one (which has the light/diffuser strip on the sides) you dont need it, as you can swap out from the old case. It is only required if you are attempting a separate build from scratch, as you only need the diffuser to make both sides sit flush together. The diffuser is the piece that has metal plates that enable the magnetic feet as well. For color, as the name mentions Almost Black isn't exactly black but more like a charcoal grey. I have the Drop Alt high profile in black, and this one is definitely lighter than that one (I am assuming that the low profile stock case is the same black as the high profile).

Nice and easy to swap
Well, after waiting months for the ALT PCBA to come back into stock, I finally weakened and bought a barebones one. So rather than building completely from scratch, I had to swap the parts over, and now have a spare black case. Other than that, a lovey experience handling good quality parts. One thing of note was that the midnight green case came with hex screws and an allen key, rather than the crosshead screws of the original case.

Bad
Fun fact - the 4 plates that go in the diffuser for the bottom magnets don’t come with the high profile nor the new cases themselves. If you’re looking to switch between the cases you’ll have to buy another diffuser just for these cheapo plates on the bottom. This is just poor design and terrible focus on saying that you need the diffuser without explicitly pointing out that they’re just missing pieces if you want to transfer the pcb to the other case.

Matte finish reduces glare (yes!)
This is the case I wish the ALT came in originally. The matte, non-reflective finish reduces the glare from the LEDs significantly and, as a result, shows off the light coming through the key-caps. This is an easy recommendation, assuming you have the dosh. Also, the included instructions make it easy to install. Well done, all around.

Diffuser is mandatory
Man, idfk i needed a diffuser. You’d think they would include it if it’s required, right? or at least hold one for each case. Like the actual hell. Is like selling a ps5 without a controller. Buying a cheeseburger but without the burger. Like wtfff. It took two weeks to get this goddamn case along with the other stuff and now it’s wait for the diffuser to be restocked to later wait another 2 weeks of shipping. Excellent!

Sturdy, looking forward to more
The case is pretty much the same as what you expect if you already have the drop alt. I wish however you could customize the different colors from the start, rather than having it as an extra purchase. Other than that the quality is good, would highly recommend starting from these options if silver or black is not your particular color scheme.
