Flawed, but beginner friendly.
This board is heavily flawed but I haven't had any problems that struck me as egregious. For a beginner, I think this is a perfectly viable custom keyboard. The included stabilisers are dreadful, truly, and not even the most tedious of mods make them "good", in my opinion, just tolerable. It has North Facing LEDs which often causes interference with Cherry profile keycaps, which is why a lot of the community prefers to use South Facing LEDs with the trade of dimmer RGB. I do think the lighting on this keyboard is exceptional and its customisability through QMK makes it able to become a chameleon and fit in to any set up. This is also hot-swappable, which is extremely convenient if you like to change switches a lot or simply want to mod your switches and stabilisers - if given the option over soldered or hot-swap PCBs I will always choose hot-swap. As far as I'm aware this uses an integrated plate design and I often find these to be hollow sounding, not a sound profile that I prefer. On top of that, it doesn't seem to play well with foam, but StupidFish do have a foam cut-out custom made for this specific board. Unfortunately, in my case, when my PCB arrive it had a few hot-swap sockets loose. 6 and Left Arrow were rattling around in the board. After soldering them back on to the board I had concerns that the solder was a little too little and not at all stable, but this could have been a consequence of international shipping.
Overall, despite its flaws, I reckon my particular issue with soldering and sockets was a stand-out occurrence. I reckon that, for most people, this is a perfect board, for relatively cheap and always in stock if you want to practice or introduce yourself in to the keyboard world, with modding and switching switches or even if you're just looking for a good board that suits your aesthetic needs.
- I'm making an additional edit to say that 2 has gone the same way as 6 and Left. This absolutely changes my review as it stops me from feeling that this is an issue with a few sockets and more the board itself. It's hugely disappointing from such a promising beginner board.
