I couldn't be happier with this board. It's solid, has a good weight, and a smooth finish that seems very durable so far. The hotswap is a nice feature as well. I can solder, but it's a bonus not having to. I know the stabs are garbage, but if you're buying a barebones board, who cares. Just buy better stabs.

Much More than expected
I already have low profile ALT, but this High prof is much much much better than low. I like this heavy weight. Actually It's lighter than other expensive alu keyboard including brass weight, but it look good and competitive. I bought a black one and I am now thinking about buying gray more. I really recommend this High profile, Don’t waste your money on Low profile. p.s. Do not waste time to use the stock stabilizers. throw it away.

A Mech Keys Favorite, Now in High Profile

The Massdrop ALT High-Profile is just like the original ALT, but now  it comes with a tall CNC-aluminum case that covers the switches.  Machined at a 6-degree angle, the case is ergonomically crafted for a  natural feel. Absent of function keys, the keyboard wastes no space—but  it still has a full set of arrows and numerals. Thanks to the Kaihua  switch sockets, it allows you to swap switches whenever you want with no  soldering required. It’s also fully programmable via QMK, meaning you  can assign macros or custom keybinds to every key. With dual USB-C  connectors, the ALT High-Profile is outfitted with the latest  connections. What’s more, it has customizable RGB backlighting and  underlighting. Set it to a single color or light it up with a rainbow  wave pattern.

Note: This run is for the ALT Barebones Keyboard, which does not include keycaps or switches.

At checkout, you can add a set of keycaps and switches to complete your keyboard. All switch packs include 70 switches.

Optimized Per-Key Lighting With Millions of Colors

The ALT High-Profile is optimized to deliver the most light possible through the keycaps. You’ll also have your choice from millions of different colors for every single key. So if you want the lighting to cycle through the entire spectrum, you’ve got it; if you prefer a two-toned look to match your setup, consider it done. There’s also a built-in LED diffuser with light-blocking material to minimize hotspots found in many other keyboards. Worried about flickering? Don’t be. The backlighting displays at a super-high frame rate (100 hertz), so there's  no annoying stutters.

Fully Programmable Via QMK

Customizing your keyboard is a lot of fun. That’s why the ALT High-Profile features a fully programmable layout, designed for  modification. Using the QMK firmware configurator,  you have total control over every key. Plus, the configurator allows  you to program macros and customized key mapping so you can easily  fine-tune your keyboard for gaming, work, or play. It’s also outfitted with two USB type-C connectors (one on each side), allowing you to use the spare connector to transfer data and charge devices at USB 2.0  speeds.

Thicker, Heavier Frame & Hot-Swappable Switches

The ALT High-Profile is made from a large block of anodized aluminum, which is known for its toughness and ability to hold a quality surface  finish. Nearly twice as heavy as the original ALT, the keyboard is heavy enough to stay put when you're locked into an intense FPS match or  hammering out an essay. Thanks to the built-in switch plate and  hot-swappable PCB, the keyboard gives you the freedom to change out your  switches whenever you like. Best of all? You don’t need to solder each  switch. Just pop them in and they’re ready to go.

Yes, except you want to mod the stabs so they dont rattle as much and/or want to lube the switches too. Then you would need appropriate Lube/dielectric grease, a brush, etc.Read More
