Product Description
The Massdrop ALT High-Profile is just like the original ALT, but now it comes with a tall CNC-aluminum case that covers the switches. Machined at a 6-degree angle, the case is ergonomically crafted for a natural feel Read More
I couldn't be happier with this board. It's solid, has a good weight, and a smooth finish that seems very durable so far. The hotswap is a nice feature as well. I can solder, but it's a bonus not having to. I know the stabs are garbage, but if you're buying a barebones board, who cares. Just buy better stabs.
I already have low profile ALT, but this High prof is much much much better than low. I like this heavy weight. Actually It's lighter than other expensive alu keyboard including brass weight, but it look good and competitive.
I bought a black one and I am now thinking about buying gray more. I really recommend this High profile, Don’t waste your money on Low profile.
p.s. Do not waste time to use the stock stabilizers. throw it away.
Picked up this keeb and loaded it with some lubed Holy Panda switches. Sitting on top of that is the Maxkey SA Leviathan keycap set...awesome setup. The keyboard is solid and feels great in the hands...I might even venture to get another one for my wife.
I've read elsewhere and now seeing/hearing it on this board...the stabs are crappy and rattle a LOT! I'm probably going to switch out for some Cherry Stabs. Here's hoping that @Drop hears the cries about the stabs and does something about them.

Very solid board with decent weight and build quality. I own the CTRL and was not expecting ALT HP has this much of premium feel. No magnetic feets but the inclined angle is enough for me.
The stabilizers are as rattle and noisy as everyone says. But TBH if we are buying the barebone version we might as well be a semi- enthusiast already. In the end everyone will grab and mod Cherry stabilizers for their board at some point. I wish Drop can remove the stabilizers completely and reduce the price for a bit (fantasizing).
There are indeed some pinging and hollow sounding. I just insert a piece of 2mm old yoga mattress between the PCB and acrylic diffuser and it solved most of the issue.
Overall great board for entry. Delivery to Asia was insanely faster than when I ordered the CTRL.

I’ve never seen stabs that rattle as much as these. I mean, I can buy cherry stabs on the internet for under $25.00. I am sure Drop can have some sort of bulk order to reduce the cost and satisfy its customers. This is a $190.00 keyboard case with a PCB. Unacceptable for this price.
-It came with a key not working. Failure to load firmware onto board.
-Support has not responded in a week. (Understandable to a degree with worlds circumstances)
-Hardware is great so 1 star. Makes a pretty paperweight so far.
I'll update review as I get proper support and either get a working one or a refund. (if I can)
Though even if everything goes favorably, I can't in good conscience recommend this to a friend.
It seems that I'm not the only one experiencing this type of problem and no one with the issue is having a good experience with it. Good on those who have working products though! Hope you guys enjoy it.
8/21/2020 Update:
-Drop sent replacement. Replacement was clearly b-stock. Unlike that which I returned in pristine condition, the replacement came with scratches and scuffs. Just to double check, I looked at the stabs and they were not those of my first product which I've added a bit of dielectric grease to.
-Noticed rattling as I lifted product up. Opened the back to see that there was a hotswap socket not properly soldered. Also visible damage to the pcb with the release of the socket. I will not be fixing this myself. I am not content with the product. Could not give proper evaluation of keyboard function due to dissatisfaction with product from poor quality control.
Straight out of the box 7 keys didn’t work, opened it up and the hot swap sockets where so badly soldered they where just hanging loose off the back of the PCB. Customer service responded fast, but from first contact to actually receiving a replacement will be 2+ weeks. Disappointing for something sold as a “premium” product.
Cameron_dbI'm on my third replacement of keys not even being soldered to the board. First time the up and down arrow keys weren't soldered then the replacement the P wasn't soldered then on the one I got just today 3 different keys weren't soldered.
The recent batch of ALT keyboards, bought both high profile and low profile, and they both cannot reset, can't configure the keys. It's a problem. DROP has yet to reply to my support emails, been more than 10 days. I bought a CTRL keyboard a while back, and that configures fine, but this recent batch is NOT working. Very disappointed, very much deciding if I should contact my bank for refund, due to lack of DROP's support. Will update when DROP decides to reply to the email.
Edit: Guess what happens after you post a negative review, you get a reply for your support email. Guess what they replied... "Thanks for contacting Drop Community Support! I understand you have a question about flashing your ALT keyboard. I'm reaching out to a cross-functional team member who may have more technical knowledge about your specific product question." By the way, I sent this email 12 days ago, ALSO the automated email that comes after you submit the support ticket, already stated "Due to the nature of your inquiry, this ticket has been forwarded over to a specialized team to better assist you. Please note that this specialty team's days of operation are Monday through Friday." The audacity of DROP's support team. 12 days! Ok Ok minus weekends, 9 business days! Just so they can say that they don't know the solution, doesn't even offer a replacement. What a mess.
Edit #2 (10/2/2020): Received another reply, stating that they know that there is a problem with the configurations, and they don't have a solution at the moment, but is working on it. This was 11 days ago. Also, they suggested me to check out the discussion page daily to find out if another customer has found a resolution... No comment...
Edit#3 (1/17/2021): Ended up not getting a solution to that batch of ALTs.... Pre-ordered a SHIFT, and it arrived, and the config works fine, so I'm guessing that batch was just defective. Very unlucky...
A nice chunk of aluminum for the case and some zippy cool lighting, but past that, this board is far behind in terms of features offered by similar boards that are less expensive.
No VIA support.
STILL no support for 5-pin switches.
No case/plate foam to dampen the horrible hollow sound.(I bought aftermarket foam that made the case sound remarkably better.)
This keyboard is extremely pretty, but that does not make up for the lack of features. Until Drop finally adds the features I mentioned above, I couldn't recommend this to someone, and would steer them to something better like an NK65 Entry Edition, KBD67lite, or Bakeneko60.
Waited a long few weeks for this, did hours of lubing, modding the stabs, only to find out that ONE of the hotswap sockets was literally soldered the opposite way. Needless to say very disappointed with the QC, and I would not recommend this at all.
