The Drop Alt is my first mechanical keyboard. Overall I'm quite satisfied with it. The case is made out of aluminum and feels quite substantial; both the weight and the rubber protrusions on the bottom keep it firmly planted. The LED patterns that come pre-installed on the firmware are nice and easy to switch between. However, if you aren't satisfied with the preset LED patterns/colors or the default keymappings, Drop's web configurator is easy to use.
I ordered it with the Halo True keycaps. These are a joy to type on and feel responsive, but I certainly plan to try out other types of switches in the future. In this regard, the Drop Alt's ability to hotswap switches was a central draw for me.
My only problem with the keyboard is the loud ping I get when depressing some of the keys. I see some users online have recommended modding the keyboard with a sheet of sorbothane. However, it appears that this is a common enough problem that Drop should consider redesigning their keyboard to solve the issue or should manufacture the keyboard with the sound dampening membrane included.
Would recommend to a friend.
