Eh, price is a bit lofty for this in my mind. You'd probably be able to find a ducky mini for around this price or less and be happier in the long run.
Just my 2cents.

Slobloyea no way you can compare a ducky mini to this board.. perhaps a Tada 68/Saber 68 or even a WhiteFox.. but a Ducky Mini.. thats like comparing a Lotus Elan to a Ferrari... there both high end sports cars.. there both expensive!.. thought the Lotus is a little cheaper! but there not the same thing...

HotRoderXEh, both are trumped up Toyotas if we really want to argue it. I guess what I'm trying to say is they aren't Corsair or Razer (or ducky or leopold) so why am I paying brand premium.
I didn't mean to ruffle all your feathers, just thought I'd post as someone who requested this drop initially, then saw the price and noped their way back to the new jersey warehouse.

Slobloyou're not paying brand premium, you're paying for quality, programmability, hot swappable capacity, construction...

Slobloif you think a Ferrari are a Lotus are just Trumped up Toyota's you never seen either in person... the build quality alone is amazing on both compared to the savage garbage toyota produces by comparison. Also BlueCrowned nailed it.. if you want to pay the brand premium tax for something that is in all way's inferior more power to ya. I am sure either keyboard will work for your intended role.

HotRoderXIs there a warranty on this board? Inferior they may be, but both Toyotas and corsairs have warranties on their assemblies. That's what brand premium is for. I don't see anything listed here. Also if my other massdrop keyboard is an indication of quality levels I'd say Ferrari is a faaar stretch.
Edit: Eh, upon looking it is the 0.01 keyboard so I'm not sure if it's the same manufacturing process. Regardless I'd be curious what happens 6 months out when you lose a magnetic foot...

SlobloObviously regardless of what we say.. your going to like ducky which is great. ALT board isn't for you! the Ducky board will be enough to make you happy. Some of us thought we like a more refined and custom product. Beer ((Ducky)) is great sometimes.. but there are those times where you want something more Wine ((Alt)). The ducky has a plastic cases the Alt comes with metal. The Ducky One you love so much is a full size board. The Alt is a more exotic and compact layout. The ducky has a Micro USB connection. The Alt has a USB C connection which is superior as far as standard's go. The Ducky has ABS caps that are in fact inferior even if double shot. The Alt has PBT keycaps that are superior by nature as PBT is a superior plastic when directly compared to ABS ((I not talking about subjective thoughts but instead the sci behind the two)). I mean so comparing the two regardless of how you hype it. The Ducky is just another run of the mill decent quality keyboard that isn't anything special.

BlueCrowned@bluecrowned a video of you massdrop employees making the keyboard... as I mentioned above I was one of the original requests for this drop as I DO like the layout and the idea of hot-swappable switches, while totally a gimmick is kind of cool (though in reality how often do you change your switch preference? and if you do is it really worth clicking out 67 little fkers out and back again when you could just pick up another board?) I consider an aluminum case a bare minimum in any keyboard I purchase at this point as I cannot STAND any flex in my boards. I look at this board next to the Clueboard and it just seems lacking for it's price. Albeit I'd have to assemble that myself. Thanks for the info on the warranty I was not aware of that. Regardless this one isn't for me in the first run or at least until people get their CTRLs and put some feedback out on them. Plus knowing MD as well as I do if this product is as good as y'all claim it is there will doubtless be a new and improved version of this layout in 6-10 months call the signature gold series or something which I can jump on then.
@HotRoderX you should read better - I never once mentioned the ducky one ~ the mini was a 60% board which is programmable and can function as a mouse. If I recall it had a partial aluminum body and it's premium brother (in the video above) is billet aluminum ~Plus LOOK at that sexy serialization badge ~ now that's the wine of serialization stickers!..... Of my dozen or so different keyboards it's the one I find myself falling back to for most tasks which is why I used it as an example. The PBT keys argument is silly since any "connoisseur" will be swapping whatever keys they have on-hand. (and probably overpaid for, but that's "art" lol)
The egos in here are hilarious ~"oh this board is beer while the board I paid 180$ for is wine" meanwhile they're both using cherry switches. (if you pay a premium here lolololol) Thanks for making my night, I'm going to go back to the audiophile community where people are more down to earth.

SlobloIt's fine if you don't understand. Those Ducky videos are their marketing materials for their anniversary edition and the like. Many of their previous offerings have had prices exceeding this keyboard, with fewer features.
Ultimately it is up to the individual as to what they are willing to pay and what interests them. At the end of the day, however, the price is what it is. Perhaps you're not familiar with manufacturing costs, but this isn't some overhyped and overpriced junk. What you consider value has no bearing on the cost of production.
Would be wise to not assume we use Cherry switches either. We use Cherry MX style switches, but the enthusiast community hardly bothers with Cherry switches outside of vintage blacks.

SlobloAre you seriously asking if it is worth it to swap out your switches instead of 'just' buying another mechanical keyboard? Wow... ''Yeah why don't I just spend 100 to 200 Euros on another mechanical keyboard that I don't need, just so I can have other switches, even though my current keyboard is hot-swappable?!''
Not everyone wants to buy another set of PBT-keycaps for their new keyboard. If I were to spend $180 (or more) on a mechanical keyboard, I'd expect it to come with PBT-keycaps. Since the ALT has RGB lighting, these are shine-through PBT-keycaps, which would save you at least another €40 (or more) from buying a seperate set.
Also, do you want to argue about egos? You came in here complaining about the price of a mechanical keyboard that you don't even own, compared it with a Ducky Mini(?) and then compared that comparison with a Toyota and a Ferrari, while desperately trying to defend your opinion. Come on dude...
I haven't been active in the mechanical keyboard community for very long, but in the short time that I have browsed through this community, I come across a lot of lovely and helpful people. You posted a comment that some people here didn't quite understand and/or agreed with, so they tried to prove you wrong by giving well-thought-out arguments. That doesn't make them unpleasant, does it? I'm a 100% sure that the audiophile community has poisonous members as well.

CyphreThanks for your reply, I DO understand manufacturing costs , as well as supply and demand curve which is why I don't mind shelling out $900 bucks for k10s. The videos were a joke to try and lighten everyone up, but the pitchforks were out at that point I guess.

My point was for MY usage if I want to change switches I can either pick up one of my other boards OR re-solder new switches to one of my existing. In my 6 years of collecting PC equipment I've done that a total of once due to preference change. Be it cherry or halo or anything ~ not sure why type matters at all? (using EC to type this on a leopold) Regardless I'll wait for a 2nd run after hearing of the coil whine issues in the K-type and minimal info on the CTRL and ALT.

Prices have more than doubled? As far as I know, most proper built mechanical keyboards made of good quality parts usually cost over €150. The ALT is hot-swappable, is programmable, has an aluminium frame with built-in RGB underlighting, has a wide variety of available switches with RGB backlightning, dual USB-C connectors and shine-through PBT keycaps. It's also quite lightweight for an aluminium case. With all of that combined, $179.99 seems relatively cheap compared to other mechanical keyboards! I would've actually bought it if I could, but I can't due to my financial situation.
Do you really find it amazing that people 'jump' to defend a product that nobody has even held? I think it's quite humorous that you criticized a keyboard that you haven't even held yet, let alone typed on and/or properly used. The idea of the ALT seems great. The price is high, but justified when you compare it to other mechanical keyboards.
Apparently you're easily offended that people disagreed with your poor arguments and that they wanted to prove you wrong. This is a community in which people are allowed to discuss, so don't be surpised when people disagree with you. As I've said before, just because people argue with you, doesn't mean they aren't down to earth. That's a ridiculous statement. If I visit the audiophile community, I'll most likely find people arguing too.

SlobloDo the Ducky keybs you've mentioned have hot-swappable switches? That feature -- esp. if solidly implemented -- factors into the price as well. Halo Clears and Trues are also fairly uncommon right now. I'm not quite sure why MX Browns with transparent housings are $20 more, though, since Vortex hasn't charged more for them in offering RGB iterations of the Pok3r.
If I were vous, Slobo, I'd have a look at mechanicalkeyboards.com and compare the features of the ALT to those of various keybs on said site.
Personally, I'm always talking myself out of buying iterations of K-Type descendants on MD. But that's only because I'm attempting to hoard money so that I can press it to my chest while cackling. If I were flush, I'd have ordered an ALT already.
