Beautifully designed and executed. A bright, useful beam. Better looking in person than in the photograph. And smaller than I had imagined, which is a good thing. You really can pocket this and forget about it.
I don’t find the on/off, light intensity cycle troublesome at all. It keeps the user interface simple.
One thing to note, and this is in the instructions fine print - which I didn’t read :-)
When you first insert a battery and hit the on switch, nothing happens. I thought I had a dead battery. It takes several seconds the system to initialize for the very first time. After that, it turns on instantly, like any flashlight.
The aluminum flashlight is small, light and bright. I carry it on a neck lanyard at night.
The lowest brightness is plenty bright in the house at night. The middle brightness was
somewhat too bright for my darkness adapted eyes. The high brightness did warm up the
head of the flashlight. I only used it for about 10 minutes while I hunted for something I
misplaced. After that, the brightest mode did not seem any brighter than the middle mode.
Today, after I tried the brightest mode for a few seconds, to confirm that it did not look any
brighter than the middle mode, it stopped turning on at all! After a few minutes, I tried the
lowest mode and it turned on, but failed again. Before I wrote a disparaging review, I decide
to try a new battery, to see if that would help. Yes it did! And now the brightest level is again
brighter than the middle level. The old battery measures just below the "green" level and in a few seconds, drifts down into the yellow level. So the little circuit in the tail switch can detect a week
battery and alert the user by not turning on. In conclusion, a very good light.
i like this better than the copper version because it's noticeably lighter. the colour of the
beam is nice. and it's relatively affordable for what it is. it is tail-standing which is a nice
touch. it comes in olive drab which is a very nice touch. it is a very good-looking torchlight. i
love it primarily for its looks.
i would have very much preferred a pocket clip that's deeper (and stiffer). the switch works fine
but it leaves a lot to be desired. clicking depth is very shallow and it does not feel uniform.
depending on which part of the button you're engaging, you would need to apply a noticeably
different amount of force.
if you've tried preon p1 mkIII, you'll realise that preon has a much better clip (arguably the
best) and a much more solid feel for switch-clicking.
The ability to clip thisbon the bill of my hat making it a head lamp is a great feature. I use it to get in and out of the woods in the dark and then up my tree stand. It then easily fits in my pocket. Even the lowest setting was fine to pick my way through the brush quietly. It also fits perfectly on my keychain for EDC.
I've had similar lights from Fenix that were similar but of higher quality (like the E05). I was disappointed with this one. I put the battery in, screwed the end cap back on, and the light was already on. The button will not turn the light off, nor will it cycle through the brightness levels. I can turn it off and on by twisting the cap, but not with the button. So much for the promised QC. This one is a disappointment. I'll be switching back to Fenix.
char_boyMine is a little better, but still disappointing. The directions say to cycle through brightness levels by holding the button, but that doesn’t work. Every time I turn it on and off it cycle one level. Also, the button rattles. I’m not particularly knowledgeable about lights, but this one feels really cheap.
I had high hopes for this flashlight, but I was very let down. The weak toggle button on the butt of the flashlight turns itself on too easily and the brightness never seemed to actually work right. It would temporarily get brighter when I toggled the setting, then flicker and dim itself again. This wasn't the worst though and I planned to just deal with it. However, the final issue that made me give up and right a review was the pocket clip. It broke after about a month, and since it turns itself on if you just drop it in your pocket, this flashlight was basically useless. I finally decided to reach out to customer support and that turned out to be a joke. "Unfortunately, we are unable to sell any individual components or parts to any given product. Shortly after the run ends, our logistics team places the order with the vendor for the exact units the group ordered and they are sent to us prepackaged by our vendors. So, we do not have any extra inventory of items or pieces to offer due to the made to order nature of items on the site." In other words, sorry we screwed you. Thanks for wasting my money Drop. I might buy other real brands that are sold on this site, but I will definitely never buy another product branded by Drop since they don't stand behind their merchandise or even care if the item is defective.
This EDC flashlight is super light. The aluminum might be a little weak over time and could possibly get some dents and beat up. But, it's nice to have something light enough to want to carry. If it was heavier, I would probably leave it at home or in the truck. Thanks again Drop!
Did not work at first, then I looked inside and saw gunk on the battery contact. I used a pencil eraser to rub it clean and hey presto, it works fine! I prefer the firmer button on this to my brass version so it doesn't get turned on accidentally in my pocket.
One thing that I liked about this light was its lightweight and variable brightnesses ...
-the clip snapped in less than a minute when I put it in my pocket.
-the coils were constantly losing shape and had to be stretched back out almost daily to contact the ends of the battery .
-It would come unscrewed on its own.
-within less than six months the button would not turn on the light and it ceased to work.
Cool looking but the design was not nearly durable enough for what I assume most people would use a light like it day in and day out
Terrible. Barely works. I bought another flashlight.
Right from the beginning the method of selecting the light mode worked terribly. Sometimes not switching, sometimes switching twice. And then the light would just not turn on until I unscrewed it, breaking the connection to the battery, and screwed it back together again.
