Solid watch for a good price. Glad it will be a limited edition now.
First, the Drop screwup - I purchased a stainless/leather strap version. I received a tracking number. When the package showed as delivered, I went to open the box. Inside? Someone's custom keyboard kit. Someone from Delaware. Poor girl - I hope she got her kit.
Next, the Drop fix - I contacted customer service, who immediately offered a solution. They would ship out another. Unfortunately it was a DLC/leather version. Fortunately, had the option been available, that's what I would have selected in the first place. The second shipment arrived without any issues. So, good support, there.
Finally, the review itself - I'm a fan. It's solid, well-built, and good looking. I have thick wrists, so 43mm is fine. In fact, I'm wearing a 38mm watch today that almost looks too small. Lume is great, though not as bright as I was expecting. I chalk that up to the tubes in the Night Train being smaller than those in the Marvelight, for example. Not enough beta particles. Still, plenty of light in the dark.
The included strap feels a bit stiff and papery, though I'm sure it would soften up in time. I set it aside and put a Barton silicone strap on instead.
I wish there was a cyclops for the date.
All in all, $700 for a sapphire crystal, ETA 2824-2, DLC, and Tritium is not bad. I'd do it again.
Thank goodness Drop has decided to eliminate its watch collaborations. Now it'll be a limited edition and worth more!
The watch is big. I have a ball 43mm marvelight and it sits much better on my wrist. This 43 mm fireman doesn’t hide the fact that it’s a little too big for the average wrist. If big is your thing, you’ll love it. The lume is incredible!
Really disappointed in the watch. The pictures make the lume look SO BRIGHT but in reality they are not even visible unless it’s almost pitch black.
The band was the other huge disappointment for me. The band is narrow, stiff, too long, poor hole placement, and feels like some type of artificial leather or something. Definitely does not live up to the quality for the price of this watch.
If I were able to return it, I would have.
In general I like this watch for price I paid - 699 usd. And I see it sold now for even less.
It is sort of military style watch with minimal like dial design.
It has swiss 28.800 engine, sapphire and tritium lumuniscence in good priced package and it is renown Ball brand with warranty.
For me, finishing of the watch and especially bracelet could be better. Thats why I give 4 stars. Bracelet should be only brushed and fit better to design of the watch itself (stainless steel aka silver version of the watch).
This is a great watch at a great price. I will say that the bracelet rattles and squeaks a little. I have other Ball watches and they don't do that. But for the price, this is very hard to beat. The tritium lume is fantastic.
Initially underwhelmed as it is somewhat plain with a sub-par leather band. In the dark, the fireworks go off with the tritium tubes- very impressive, I had to drill 2 holes in the band to fit my 6.75 wrist- and it still feels kinda cheap. Have ordered a couple extra from Barton. The watch runs well and seems smaller than the 43mm width. I'm waiting for the new bands to see the everyday impressions. Highly recommended for after dark wear- we'll see about the daytime.
Nice watch, but it went DOA about 12 hours after I put it on.
A) Opened it. Adjusted the bracelet. Wound it. Set it. Woke up because it was light out, and the watch said 5:25 AM, dozed off, awoke and it was still 5:25. Shook my wrist to move the second hand , nothing. Set and wound it, still nothing. Big disappoint after owning a half dozen Ball Watch Co. watches. Still have three besides this one.
B) Wondered why the the movement was so tight both times I wound it.
C) Folks who bought the bracelet, at least the stainless ones, should check for loose link screws. Mine were so loose that there was no initial resistance. Most of the other link screws were loose.
D) Was looking forward to the blue minute tubes. Was very disappointed that they looked like the white minute tubes on my two year old PVD version. If I squinted I thought I could see a blueish tint, but Mrs.Boots still says they're white. Is that how they should be on the stainless version?
Very disappointed that I got a dud.
